[quote=brianf]The key for an American Win is to get more points than the Euro's!

Of course, we know that. The key is how to get more points, which is the point of the discussion.

How you get more points is by beating us in the matches

1. Get each team to focus on their match and not worry about Tiger's or Phil's outcome

2. Consider themselves the underdogs "nothing to lose".

3. Ignore the media

1 Tiger Woods 2930.00
2 Phil Mickelson 2034.38
3 Jim Furyk 1206.00
4 Chad Campbell 1129.60
5 David Toms 1068.92
6 Lucas Glover 641.38
7 Davis Love III 631.88
8 Fred Couples 627.73
9 Vaughn Taylor 600.83
10 Brett Wetterich 576.00
11 Zach Johnson 496.48
12 Arron Oberholser 477.50

What a team to not worry about. Assuming that Chris Di MArco is a pick (even Hal would have had the brain cell functioning long enough for that one) , the team still looks weak. After the top four of Tiger,Phil,Fuyrk and Toms ,the team looks either old (DL3 and Freddie ) or unrelaible.Di MArco aside, I would not want any of the others in a clutch match. When would you rest your top seven?

Thought

As talented as Tiger is, he is a good guy, but he seems to be a prima donna, and that attitude is not good for the Ryder Cup. We might do better if he is off the team.

When will we wise up

and do Ryder Cup points over a 12 month period instead of a 19 month period like the Eurpeans? It is really a shame you can earn more Ryder Cup points for a 2005 major than for the players Championship this year?

Why not mimic their success and do qualifying the same way they do?

There is no key to the Americans winning. You are have forgotten that foreign golfers have gotten better. Look at the top fifty world ranking more half are outside the US. Remember this is match play Tiger could shoot 67 and his opponent 72 and still lose the match.

Just out of interest, does anyone know a stat which is indicative of how good a player is when he is good and also how bad he is when bad?

It occurs that the Euro team is always weaker on paper, perhaps the difference is that the bad holes for a Euro player are worse than for a US player. If a US players bad hole (which they would lose) is a bogey, but the Euros tend to have doubles (which they would lose by two or more shots), the shot average stats would 'lie' when transformed to match play.

Im sure we all can appreciate this. There are plenty of amateurs with a handicap way higher than their ability because they are plagued by the double or triple bogeys....
