The British Masters represents the first big event of the year on the continent of Europe. Dubai and China have seen big purses on the European Tour this season , but the European Tour only really kicks off in Europe this weekend.
Most of the Euros have returned ,only Donald,Garcia and Owen are significant by omission. The hunt for Ryder Cup points will make the scheduling betwen the European tour and 'money bags' Tour interesting over the next five months.
These next three weeks are all biggies as far as the European Tour is concerned, British Masters, Irish Open, and BMW Championship. Hopefully the big guns can start performing in Europe to secure Ryder Cup spots
This is one of my favorite venues on the European Tour. Nice to see Paul Casey off to a fine start. You know, he won the last Benson & Hedges at the Brabazon Course back in 2003. He obviously feels comfortable out there and he could truly use a healthy shot of confidence.
Also nice to see Andrew Coltart and David Higgins in the early hunt. I hope they can keep it going. Both are in desperate need of some top tens.
As usual, the cream should rise to the top on such a fine thinking man's course. Should be a great weekend of golf.
Bummer to see such a comedy of errors from three world-class players. Darren seems to do this kind of stuff quite often and, as for Paul Casey, he still seems to be struggling with his self confidence.
Paul is having a rock solid season, no doubt. He has finished in the top-20 in eight of his 11 starts this year. But as the courses get tougher and the fields get deeper/stronger...and the ramifications are more weighty...the doubt creeps in. He'll just have to play his way through it.
Having watched both the B Masters and the B Nelson the difference in the quality of golf was quite scary. At the Belfry there was a succession of really poor shots while in Texas only 1 player really blew himself out of it.
I went to all four days and saw some fantastic golf but was dissapointed how some of the players seemed to blow up namely Clarke, Casey and Poulter, Monty not making the cut was a real blow.

I hope they're not just saving themselves for K Club!
The weather on the weekend was lousy, but the 'excuse me' dance by the leaders until the winner backed into position was a sad end to a promising tournamnet. Casey must be kicking himself about 9,10 and 11.
