Tiger because the will to win it for his late father will overcome anything the USGA can throw at him. Retief because he's my favourite player and nothing fazes him and he rules when conditions are hard and fast. Ernie because he's due a big win sometime soon

I could go with Phil, Tiger, and Retief, but that is not fun (sorry to the posters before me).

Here are 3 that people rarely think about, but the US Open is always open for players who hit the ball straight and can putt under pressure.

KJ Choi, David Howell, and Chad Campbell

To Aaron's credit he hit an iron from 237 and left himself about 18 feet from history. His putt never had a chance. It was a couple of feet right all the way and didn't come within a foot of the hole.

He wasn't asked about his tee shot on #18 but in a post round interview he did say he was very much aware of the 59 and that the pressure affected his poor attempt at the birdie. 60 is a great score but after watching him play #18 today I have doubts he could handle the pressure of a US Open. Then again, not many can.

My picks: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Retief Goosen.........in that order. I really went out on a limb there didn't I!
US Open Picks, Phil Mikelson, Jim Fuyrk, Tiger Woods.

The rest of the reply is off topic so stop reading if you want: What an awesome round by Olberholser until the last hole! That putt didn't have ANY chance of going in, what a choker. I didn't know the drive was so bad, but missing that putt by so much was definitely was a CHOKE! Sorry for you Aaron, but you stunk that one up! 60 is an awesome round, but missing a putt for 59 by 8 inches is horrible. Hopefully he will learn from the experience.

Am I hearing this right? You guys are calling him a choker because he couldn't birdie a 439 yard hole after a duffed tee shot. What I would say is, what a fantastic 2nd shot in and that the nerves got to him over his putt. He could have easily put the ball in the bunker, made 5 and then been branded a 'choker' with some amount of trutj in it. Remember, he has won on Tour this season

Tiger, Mickelson, Leonard (real darkhorse)

Oberholser said he couldn't remember a worse chunk with his three wood off of the tee. Given that, one heck of a round.

Retief's the obvious choice b/c he's playing really well right now and he's the best U.S. Open player in the world. He's just gotta learn to close the deal better, though. Tons of 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishes the last 12 months, but only a few firsts. He's the Greg Norman of '86. He's gone into the last round of the last 4 major titles with a chance to win, and has come up empty.

Other than Goosen, I like Els. I think his game is slowly starting to come around. Furyk, of course, should be in contention. And my dark horse is Trevor Immelman. Has the skills to be a great U.S. Open player, and he's hot right now.

Everyone chokes at times. That doesn't make him a choker, but a 202 yard drive on a 439 yard hole (this is nothing for these guys), when you know you need bird to tie the record is a choke. How often do you see any of these guys hit a 200 yard drive ? That's a lousy drive for me and I'm a 16. I can't comment on the putt...didn't see it, but even Aaron admitted he was feeling the pressure. It was still a great round by a fine young player.

I was only calling the final putt a choke, but I guess the drive was also. Saying someone choked on one swing or one putt doesn't make him a choker for the whole round. Obviously shooting 60 is awesome, but he definitely choked on the putt. That's golf.

Arron even admitted that the self-induced pressure of attempting the 59 got to him on both the drive and the putt, which was never even close.

I think it is more than reasonable to question Arron's ability to handle the fire of a back-nine U.S. Open run, given the way he responded yesterday.
