Ernie Els - done so well for so long. Except for greg Norman and Tom Weiskopf, the most "snakebitten" when coming to win the Masters.
Davis Love - near the end of his career. He is a native Georgian who came close in 1995, 1999. Best years are behind him.
John Daly - the people's choice. However, I sense his popularity dwindling. As he turns 40 and is still victim to his vices, people may see him more as an irresponsible tragic figure. Overcoming his demons may be the way for him to get the utmost respect.
Ernie Els or Retief Goosen.......these two guys have finished 2nd and 3rd enough times. Hopefully the South African curse at Augusta is crushed by one of these two.
If Phil can't win I'd like to see Ernie finally come through at Augusta. It would be a shame to see Ernie retire from the PGA TOUR without having won The Masters.
miguel angel jimenez or sergio garcia (although cant see garcia winning after this year at augusta, but you never know what sergio is gonna turn up on any given week), wouldnt mind olazabal winning it for a third time either. im english but i love spanish golf.
i would love him too, but you can't just guarantee someone winning the biggest major in golf IMO. he's been close to winning it before when he was at his near best, and he certainly needs to reproduce some form to have a good chance at any tournament.
Monty can't win ANYTHING on this side of the pond, so his only chance at a green jacket is to join Golf Rewind and make 1000 posts!
I think Els is focusing on winning the Masters - he really wants that title, so I think he has a good shot. But it may take this season and next for him to get back to full steam. Then watch out for about 2 years! I think he'll have a VJ-like surge, and just really be outstanding.
I think for next year, Appleby, Woods, or one of the fresh new faces we're seeing nowadays will win it. Personally I'd enjoy seeing Woods win another, then probably Appleby, DL3, or Goosen.
