Thanks, Frank! I just scanned the list of those who did not qualify - some by a huge amount and quite a few who withdrew after shooting an over 70 number on the first 18.
Some pretty good golfers were unable to get thru qualifying, huh?
There always are. PGA players tend to spend less time readying for a qualifier, and have a tendancy to show up the day before and walk the course and not really play it.
The other thing is for a one day event, where 150+ pretty good players are looking for 20+/- spots, the odds are tougher. There are always those unknown commodities who will hit a zone and play well enough to eat up a spot or four.
Top 2006 Tour Rookies J.B. Holmes and Camilo Villegas made it in. With Villegas, you couldn't be sure, as his recent performances were on the dismal side.
But in the qualifier - wouldn't ya know it - Villegas puts together 2 solid rounds of 67 and 69.
Of course, we can't expect a 136 out of him at Winged Foot. But we can hope he has a good week, and maybe at best get a return invite to Oakmount in 2007, and MAYBE an invite to Augusta in 2007.

I have a feeling Camilo will qualify for both based on his final 2006 credentials.
Droogy, I agree RE Villegas making it to Augusta and US Open in 2007, provided that he posts two or three more Top Fives including a solo or 2-way tie for 2nd during the rest of this season.
The remaining US Open Sectional Qualifiers were held Tues June 6th - here's a glance at who made it, who did not.
