Okay I just wanted to get this in before Michelle round:

Usually I have certain expectations and hopes for Michelle in particular tournaments but I've never actually predicted that she would win. This one is different.

I'M BACKING WIE FOR THE WIN.

That's it the statement is there. Disregard other predictions, this is the one that counts.
I've not felt confident enough before a tournament to actually declare her the favourite, but it is different this time, and so all the anti-Wie critics can hold me to account after the tournament.

Michelle double bogied the 5th. Hmm.

I'm still backing her though.

I see she's burning up the women's event, early days but I can see why she grows tired of playing with these lesser mortals on the LPGA.

I was waiting for that.

I'm sure she'll come good rodney, until the last 9 on Sunday (sorry, just couldn't resist)

She closed out the first round nicely with 3 birdies in the last 4 holes. She's tied with Creamer and Sorenstam, and she's ahead of Pressel.

Indeed she really got it going and is back in the tournament.
I'm not particularly worried about the -8 score because I don't think Nicole Castrale will win it anyway.

So I would count Wie and Sorenstam as 5 back, from Christie Kerr.

Should be some good golf.
Interesting how, when the pressure was really on Wie, she knocked in 3 birdies in 4 holes. Interesting.

I'm not sure the pressure was really on either, but I thought maybe I could annoy you.

No it wasn't. I had my, she did better than Pressel line, to fall back on, if needed.

By the way, Morgan Pressel had 35 putts. Not great for a great putter.
Both Morgan and Michelle had 15 GIR.
Michelle had 32 putts to Morgan's 35, and thus scored 3 shots better -1 versus +2.

EDIT: Actually Morgan was +1, to Wie at -1, so just two shots in it.

Wie will do her usual. Be close to the lead on Sunday with the back 9 left and make a couple bogeys while Annika is birdeing everything.
Last year's fourth round scores: Annika 73, Michelle 69.

JudD, we would be fighting a losing battle trying to explain reality to some people.

Many people use Wie's dreadful last round at the US Womens Open in 05 to try to define her whole career thus far.

Firstly that was a bad, full round. She was out of contention before the back 9 so people talking about the back 9 just show ignorance.

Then they add to that US Open, the fact that she has finished high without winning on a few occasions. They try to claim she faltered at those tournaments.
What they don't realise is that nearly all the times she finished high, there were runaway leaders and she just wasn't in contention to win. So she did not falter on the back 9 on those occasions either. In fact, most of her final round scores are excellent.

Annika was leading by 8 shots with the tournament won, and started writing her speech during her shots and stumbled home.
She was never in danger.
Thanks to her though because her last round meant Wie was the only one to have all 4 rounds under par, and gave Wiemaniacs something to cheer about.
