Wie - the lpga championship

Although Sectional debate still goes on, the lpga championship is sure to create a bit more debate.

The contenders:

Annika Sorenstam: still the woman to beat in my opinion. She may not have the same start as she had last season, but a 2nd place last week is pretty good and her game is bound to be on.

Lorena Ochoa: after 6 top 2 finishes, should we read anything into her 42nd place finish last week?

Paula Creamer: rumours that she may pull out injured. She hasn't really contended this season anyway. A long shot.

Morgan Pressel: getting into form recently. Could be a dark horse, but I think the course may be a little long for her. She has performed very well at the last 2 events. but they were both 6000 yards. lpga is 6,596 yards.

Christie Kerr: despite winning earlier, I call her a long shot.

Michelle Wie: favourite for a high finish. Strong chance if Annika doesn't turn it on.

Karie Webb: I would consider her less likely to finish in the top 2 than Michelle Wie, but more likely to win the title, due to all her experience.

Natalie Guilbis: I doubt her first title will be a major.

Grace Park: Stranger things have happened, but not much.

I think Annika will win it, came in 2nd last week, and is hungry for a win.

Wie will do her usual. Be close to the lead on Sunday with the back 9 left and make a couple bogeys while Annika is birdeing everything.

Actually your description of Wie, sounds remarkable like what Annika has been doing recently.

Wie has done that in practically every tournament she has played in.

Annika has done that about twice this year. She has won the lpga champ. 3 years straight.

If she were really that good, to be in a position to do that in practically every tournament she played in, she would be some player.
She isn't that good yet.

I backed Wie each way.
I think she'll perfrom well but doesn't have the string of about 10 lpga tournaments the other lpga contenders have.

I agree with Annika winning but won't bother with the 4-1 odds.

i wasnt going to, but ive been keeping my eye out every week and she never goes higher than say 7's. but is a very worthy favourite and odds of 4's dont look too bad if she wins comfortably, although i can see it being 1 or 2 shots between 1st and 2nd and maybe 3rd and the rest of the field strung out behind them. annika and wie 1st and 2nd wont be too bad. but i will pitch a guess for sorenstam and gulbis 1st and 2nd.
wie to be in the top 5 aint a bad bet at 5/2 on 2nd-5th e/way terms.

I am going to pick Seon Hwa Lee. She is a very steady player, with a swing that is incredible. She got her first win last week, has 3 seconds, and 9 top 20 overall.

I don't think she understands pressure enough to feel it.

Annika Sorenstam +1 after 14 holes.
She hit 3 birdies, each closely followed by bogeys, and added a further bogey on the 3rd, her 12th hole.

This isn't like the Annika of last year, and is more like the Annika of the season so far.

- Ochoa doing well at -3 after 15
- Pat Hurst leading on -5. Almost incidental in my opinion.
- Yuri Fudoh at -3, showing she is a top player.
- Ai Miyazato at -3.
- Paula Creamer got it to -3, but had 3 bogeys in 4 holes, to go back to level.
- Morgan Pressel very stead at level par after 15, one birdie, one bogey.

HAHA.
lpga.com has brought Annika's score back to even par, and changed the bogey at hole 3 to a par. lpga.com still just as reliable as they always have been.
I don't think Annika's on form though.
