I'm just wondering if Harrington is testing something though.
He averaged 315 yards off the tee, being 1st in driving distance, ahead of Bubba Watson.
Rodney,
You must have looked at someone else's stats because Padraig averaged 260.5 yards on his two measured drives and ranked 126th in that category for the day.
The West Course will play 7,264 yards, which amounts to 103.8 yards per par. That's kind of long. That would equate to a par-72 course measuring about 7,500 yards.
Furthermore, with 26-yard wide fairways and 6" rough, Winged Foot will definitely play long.
Bethpage Black was not much longer than Winged Foot will play this year, and I'd assume the rough and fairway conditions will be similar at this venue compared to that one. Most players would probably consider that the longest-playing major venue in recent times, what with the players not being able to reach some of the fairways and all.
As for Paddy, he seems to have the game to do well at US Open courses, but I wouldn't bet on him getting it done this year...not at this venue.

You are right that it is 260.5 yards now. However, I am absolutely 100% positive that it was 315 yards after he had finished his round.
So they make mistakes and changed them later, just like the lpga.
Winged Foot will be a challenge, but the course isn't that long. I think it's playing in the 7200 yard range (?).... Might be wrong though.
(since when was 7200 yards not that long?) LOL.... The fact that I said that indicates that distance is ruling the game imo...
I think droogy answered that.
A 7,200 yard, par 70 is very long.

Well, given his form this year, you are probably right.
He is consistantly top 20, but he's putting in a bad round in every tournament, and a bad round at Winged Foot will be unacceptable in my opinion.

Great point, completely shanked my thought as it pertains TO PAR.
