A back corner of the locker room at the Byron Nelson Championship is reserved for past champions, the perfect place for an impromptu duel between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
Woods was changing his shoes and chatting with a few reporters last year when Mickelson walked into the room. Before long, two of the best players in golf starting lobbing school-yard challenges at each other, everything from racquetball to tennis, from basketball to swimming. Weary of where this was going, Woods ended the banter with a playful shot at Mickelson's physique.
"Tell you what," Woods told him. "I'll take you on in anything where you have to run."
Betting against Phil at this point is almost silly - he's won the last two majors and has played not only some awesome golf this year, but seems to be both incredibly confident and amazingly relaxed.
Wing Foot will be 7,264 yards, par 70 courses. 7,264 is a long course by any stretch and to make it a par 70?
The fairways--average width of 26 to 28 yards--will be surrounded not just by the usual two-yard-wide band of "interim" rough an inch and a quarter deep, but also by a second band of rough. That band will be six yards wide or so, and its depth will be a game-time decision. There is going to be a 540 yard par 4.
Based on that If Tiger hit the ball straight he wins. For Phil it will be about putting. But I would not be surprised if a short hitter like Furyk wins because the course is set up to penalize distance. Sergio has a great chance becuse he hits the ball so straight and his irons are the best in the game.....yet he needs to learn how to putt.

That's not really likely though is it.
He will probably still make a high finish with his great recovery skills.

For the same reason, I backed Monty at 125-1. Great odds.
He was really hitting his driver straight for 3 rounds in his last tournament, and his irons were absolutely superb. That's why I backed him. He was giving himself a good birdie chance on every single hole, but his putting was dreadful. Putting can change quickly, so I thought 125-1 was great odds.
However, he had a dreadful last round, where every part of his game started to go downhill.
Still though, Monty at 125-1 isn't that bad of odds to have got.
I am not saying that Tiger does not play every game with determination but this time around is different; Sunday is father’s day I would say there may be that added effort for Tiger to win one for his late father.
