Long pants are almost always better... light , long pants. Unless you have someone hunting for your balls... a caddy, say ... you need long pants.
Well, maybe in Michigan or other northern lats, where scrounging through blackberry bushes, poison oak, or fighting off "no-see-ums" in the woods is expected. But down south, shorts are the way to go. Most of the courses down here either have brush and palmettos so thick you don't even TRY to find your ball (ratlesnakes bite through long pants like they aren't even there!), or they have cleared out the native underbrush and you're looking for your ball in a pile of pine needles and oak leaves, or on barren sandy soil.
That's why the PGA Tour's Florida leg is early in the year. Playing down here in July and August, in long pants, would not be fun! I start chafing just thinking about it!

I think that has more to do with Hawaii, Cali, Florida, and Texas being the only states you CAN play golf in at the beginning of the year. Man I miss the Florida winters.
Like many of my posts, I bring out the controversial types. I do respect the opinions of others, but some of the protests about Sexism and Racism are kinda weak. I’ve sat back and let the others counter the attacks and I appreciate the support (very entertaining). I do NOT consider myself a Sexist or a Racist, but I do admit that I have very liberal views on both subjects. I love Women and embrace different cultures/races. You can easily find Jewels and/or Jerks anywhere, regardless of gender or origin.
Professional golfers are subject to a dress code that brings class, comfort, variety, and professionalism to the Tour. Professionals working in any middle class (or above) have alway been required to adhere to dress codes. Golfers didn't invent the dress code....they just live buy it. Proper attire is part of the professional golfer's "uniform" and while fashions are changing as we speak.........you won't see many PGA Tour legs out there any time soon?
When the UPS and FedEx driver have their own tour, playing for millions of dollars.........then they can enact any dress code they please. Until then The PGA Tour Rule is a great one!
Class & professionalism like Duffy Waldorf's clown clothes and Leaguegolf's parrot-head shirts? seriously though, uniforms & dress codes in many professions have evolved. Allowing the caddies to wear shorts was too long in coming. How has that impacted anything? Oh the humanity!
And so what if we see some gnarled legs and Old Geezers with the long black socks. We've already seen worse...... after all, there is nothing preventing a retro line of clothes called the Johnny Miller champion's line..... with wide collars, hip huggers, bell bottoms & lime checkers to boot! I'd rather see a golfer dressed as a UPS delivery man than that, yet there is nothing prohibiting it.
Actually, it would be a riot if the golfers went retro once in a while like they do in baseball, basketball & hockey. Payne Stewart made a career of it.
Lumpy would look like Ed McMahon, Vijay Link from Mod Squad, Sabbatini the Meathead from All In The Family and John Daly Muttley from the Wacky Racers.

i have to agree with inconsistant, during the summer, i don't even look at long pants, work or play, and there's no reason why the local pro's shouldn't be allowed to wear shorts as long as they are dress shorts and look professional. if they are in a tournament, which is televised, they should wear long pants, but i do believe that the pga and more so, the lpga should clamp down on the styles that they are wearing. i can see where some individuals like to to wear flashy clothes to draw attention to them or to give them their own identity, but there has to be a limit. they are professionals and should look like it.
I for one would like to see the LPGA wearing shorter skirts and shorts. But not on Laura Davies!!! I would have to gouge my eyes out after seeing that!!!

Careful of what you say HackPro...I might just find a picture and see if you're a man of your word.
Hey! There's no parrots on my shirt! Professional golf has always had it's share of "fashion statements" (i.e plaid pants big pointed collars, wide white belts etc.) and Waldorf is far from the worst these days.
My "Hawaiian" shirt is for fun and I certainly wouldn't wear it in an improper setting. Speaking of my Shirt..........it's still making the rounds among GR members. Haven't you received it yet?
Your shirt? Sorry, but I wore it while pulling the engine out of a car. The cleaners are working on it, but no other members have received it yet.
