...see you at The Championship (as the the British Open is correctly termed)
Actually, the correct name would be The Open Championship. It would be nice if more Brits, the sticklers for detail they are, would remember the correct names of The Masters and PGA Championship.

I always refer to it as the Masters because I undestood that to be it's name. The PGA championship I understood to be the US PGA because it is run by the PGA of America, as there is no world body.

But that's not the name of the tournament. That is just as wrong as us Americans calling The Open Championship by the improper moniker The "British" Open Championship. In my honest opinion, we need to all just call the tournaments by their official names.
Every single aspect of his game was WAY OFF. Starting with his course management. Gone are the days where he plays disciplined golf and hits only off the tee what he needs to. Why he hit driver on practically every hole is beyond me.
I agree, Dormie. He tried to play bomb and gouge, and this was the wrong course for that. He is long enough to hit three wood on almost every hole. I think he would have made the cut if he made better decisions on the tee boxes.
Coming off of a 9 week layoff, it was actually quite predictable... especially there in this tournament. It's impossible to know how much better he would've done at an easier venue. The dumbest comment I heard about Tiger this weekend came an from an SI writer. He said that Tiger probably would have been leading at a normal tour stop. As if the wayward drives, inconsistent iron play and spotty-at-best putting would've magically disappeared somewhere else and he would've leapt (in a single bound, no doubt ) the 100 or so guys playing as well or better than he. I can't believe I used to pay for that mag. He has to be either a Tiger shill, dumb as a stump, or both.

Waz, chill out man. LOL. Tiger loves bentgrass greens and hates poa annua, despite winning the U.S. Open by 15 shots on poa greens. If you don't remember, he was hitting it all over the place and didn't hit his irons very well at Doral but putted pretty good to make up for it. He probably wouldn't be leading, true, but I would say on greens he's more comfortable with (added to the factors such as much shorter rough, more par 5's, and easier playing conditions altogether), he would be in the top 20 for sure and probably top 5 or 10.

Although I'm a huge Tiger fan, I can't understand why anyone would think he would have played better this week at any other course. He himself admitted after the round that he wasn't ready to come back. In my opinion, he didn't want to miss a major on the chance that things would come together but let's face it, between his Dad's death and the resultant lack of preparation, he just didn't have it! No shame in that - he'll be back.
I am sure it has been mentioned here that he hit his driver too much at Winged Foot. I just recently watched the Sunday tape from the 2002 US Open. He used his driver only six times, and Bethpage Black is just as long as Winged Foot.
I know the '06 is in the rear view mirror, but if he had employed a similar strategy of using his driver sparingly, he would have made the cut this year.
