Monty has a teenagerish attitude where nothing is ever his fault, so if he starts to slide, he will find fault with the crowd and blow up, blaming everyone but himself. I reckon he will end up with a good second round then falla part Saturday bigtime, finishing 40th on Sunday.
Query to our friends from the UK about Monty. I know his golfing history but know little about him personally. Is he from a priviliged background? When I watch him at interviews, I am reminded of Prince Charles as he tends to talk with his teeth together, and do that hesitation-almost stutter thing, and his "humor" is that low-key, you gotta pay attention sort.
This is not meant to criticize him - I'm just curious if those mannerisms are from his background.

Actually the way I've always seen it, is that he has an attitude that the crowd should act a certain way & do certain things or not others. The unfortunate offshoot of this, is that he lets his opinion that; if for instance cameras are not allowed then they shouldn't be used, meaning it distracts him from what should be important, the game. Once he lets something trivial like an amateur photographer get under his skin pointing a lens at him, then its the end of his competition, as proved by the Austrian debacle.
Generally he is down to earth, but once he lets a matter of principal into the fray, well.
He is renound for not getting on with US Audiences who assume his ignoring them is an insult, when infact it isn't he is simply trying to focus, though occasionally it wouldn't do him any harm to lighten up a bit when he makes a minir error or that putt doesn't quite "get in the hole", to coin a cringeworthy phrase.

A lot of UK Humour is very subtle & can easily be missed. Yes I've noticed his teeth together mannerism too, (or a dental problem) its probably a local thing to the area where he grew up in the manner of talking & linking words & sounds. Though for a Scott, he doesn't sound very Scottish at all, I'll also admit.
heres hoping monty can do it,he always starts great and tails off and its time he kept his composure throughout the whole tournament and grab that major,he is not getting any younger and i think he has to do it in the next few years
Monty is really quite likeable most of the time. He has been playing poorly of late missing several cuts in a row on the European Tour.
Seems like he's finally getting his act together.
Hope he can make it last. Especially for his caddy Alistair and Alistair's wife who is one smashing llady.
He didn't deal with the rowdy US galleries in the most tactful way when he first started playing in America and that sort established a reputation as a sourpuss. And he was thereafter ruthlessly heckled until he realized why it was important to improve his public image even if privately he doesn't agree.
So now that's all water under the bridge and everybody loves him. Well, almost everyone.
He was very well received by the Ryder cup crowd here in 2004. I think he's past all of that, unless he says or does something to spark it up again.
Yeah, I agree. It seems now that he's a bit of a gallery favourite. I would think that being widely regarded as the Best Player To Not Win A Major helps.
