Not sure if this was brought up in any of the other threads because I haven't gotten through all of the US Open discussions yet. And I know we've talked about it at other events.
But...
Was this the most ABNOXIOUS gallery we have seen and heard at a golf event yet? It has to be. It got to the point where it started to ruin the experience for me. Following contact on every single shot by every single player, some BOZO had to scream something out loud enough so everyone can hear. Do they think they are famous when they yell GET IN THE HOLE when someone hits their tee shot on a par 5?
Will this ever stop? Its just getting ridiculous now.
Did you notice after the BOZO yelled out the Superman comment at Ferrie when Phil stepped up to hit you could hear a pin drop. Something tells me the "Yeller" was either given a stern warning or escorted from the course. I to believe it has gotten really old listen to these guys yelling. If the USGA or PGA officials would take a stand and start tossing people out we wouldn't have to listen to these "BOZOs."

I see where you're coming from but it's not the USGA or the PGA's call. It's the players call. I'm sure if a marshall were standing beside the guy who yelled "Superman!" he probably would tell the guy to shut up, but if a player wants someone removed from the grounds for something they said, it will be done. Remember the guy yelling "No Love!" at Davis Love at the match play championships in LaCosta. Davis got tired of it and had the guy tossed so fast he landed in Sacramento! Simp
Maybe if the USGA cut people off from the beer tent a little earlier in the day (kind of like they do after the 7th inning and the 3rd quarter in bb and fb) This wouldn't be so much of a problem.

I don't agree that it's the players responsibility. If a player starts going after fans it takes them out of their rythem and now he becomes a BOZO cop. Print on the back of the ticket that any loud or obnoxious outburst other than cheering a good shot will not be tolerated. All violators will be escorted from the course.
I have been to the Bethpage, Shinnecock and Winged Foot Opens, and I am getting turned off. I don't know why I keep going back.
With the growth of the sport comes many people who are ignorant to the traditions and etiquette of the sport. They think it's like a baseball or football game, and their ticket gives them the right to be rowdy, and try to get under the player's skin.
It's really only like 1-2% of the gallery, but since the galleries are growing, it seems like quite a lot of "Bozos" are yelling.
The big problem I have is with the marshals. Many of them are senior citizens who have the free time to be there the whole week. They are so enamored with the golf and the golfers that they are simply spectators in USGA uniforms. When players are hitting a shot, the marshals face the play and simply put their arms up to try to quiet the crowd. It used to be that the marshals faced the GALLERY and really took control of the crowd.
The USGA makes such a stern test of golf... I wish they would be more stern with the fans. Unfortunately, it seems like they don't want to sacrifice dollars to do that.

I agree. Also a good caddy should help to. I was reading an article in this monthes Golf Digest with Nick Faldo and he says his caddy used to really take control of the crowd. It wouldn't be so bad but like Dormie said, you can only hear GET IN THE HOLE so many times before it becomes unbearable.

i know what you mean, i also dont like the way the fans go and run around every ball that is hit near them (although thats not a real problem, but it just makes me laugh). they did a lot of running yesterday when they followed mickelson.
I don't see what was so wrong with the superman comment, the guy is wearing a superman belt buckle. If he had not used a superman belt buckle no one would of yelled that.
