I voted to play. I never play on weekends, though, so I still get to see the weekend play, whether PGA, LPGA or what have you. If I could only play on weekends I couldn't imagine giving it up to watch golf on TV regardless.
We will definitely be watching... at least Thursday and Friday.
I got word last night that one of my son's schoolmates, Joanne Lee from Carlmont High School in San Carlos, Ca. qualified for the LPGA U.S. Open.
We are so excited for her. I personally don't know much about her, other what I hear from my son. I do know she has won many tournaments in California, like the CIF State Championship in '04 as well as many others.
So we'll be watching!
It's nice to see locals from your area qualify and tee it up.
TEVO, DVR, VHS...
Hardly ever watch tourneys real-time. Don’t like to take the time to watch Phil four putt (but it is fun to fast forward and then reverse several times in a row). I play early both Saturday and Sunday and have plenty of time to set the recorder. I usually only record Sunday. The trick is not letting someone tell you who won before you get to watch it.
It will be set up very hard, and they should have plenty of trouble trying to break par. A similar score to the US Open winner may be on the cards.
Does the USGA go to the same lengths with the Women's Open that they do with the Men's? Do they grow the rough to the same height, pinch in the fairways, and tuck the pins?

Of course they don't make it as difficult as for the US Open.
They do tuck the pins. They do pinch the fairways alot more than other lpga tournaments, and they do grow the rough higher than other lpga tournaments. Just like the US Open is tougher than pga tournaments, the us womens open is tougher than lpga tournaments.
The USGA know what level the women are at, and they make par a very difficult score to break for even the best of them.
Evidence, in the form of the 2005 leaderboard:
1 KIM, Birdie +3
2 LANG, Brittany +5
2 PRESSEL, Morgan +5
4 KANE, Lorie +6
4 GULBIS, Natalie +6
If I have a chance to play golf, I'd do that over watching no matter what event is on TV. But unless someone emails or calls and says they have a free round with an afternoon tee time, I'll be watching the ladies. And anymore they show a replay of the majors on the Golf Channel so it's not hard to find time to watch.
Distance wise.....If we say that the men play from the Tips (Black) at the US Open....what Tees would relate to where the Women tee off from for the Womens US Open?
