Phil Mickelson was alledgedly going to go to bed for a few days after his disappointment.
Monty instead went on to his next tournament and after 2 rounds:
1 MONTGOMERIE, Colin * SCO -10 68 68 136
2 CASEY, Paul ENG -8 67 71 138
T3 FRASER, Marcus AUS -7 71 68 139
T3 HANSEN, Søren * DEN -7 69 70 139
T3 KARLSSON, Robert * SWE -7 71 68 139
T3 MARSHALL, Andrew * ENG -7 72 67 139
Are you implying that Phil lacks character simply because he's not playing this week?
I support what rodney is saying in that when you`ve made a complete pig`s ear of a tournament, more often than not it`s best to get straight back on that horse you`ve just fallen off... asap!
I`m sure that `stubborn as a mule Monty` Did not really want to play this week , but it`s done him good doing so, regardless of where he finishes in this weeks horse race!
C-B-C... Not quite sure where/why all those animals came from...
I saw an interview with Padraig Harrington on Tuesday, as he was getting ready for this week's Booz Allen Classic. You could see the exhaustion in his face, and he admitted he was tired, that the US Open had drained him. But, he had committed to play this week, and didn't want to let the pro-am guys down. I'm glad to see he's doing alright, only 8 shots back.
As for Phil, well, he's a California guy, and probably sensitive!
I don't know what the conditions are like at the Johnnie Walker Championship, or how tough the field, but it has to be a walk in the park for Monty after last week! However, what's the chance of him blowing it before the end of the day Sunday? I'm not wishing it on him, but fatigue can set in, and he's already showed some signs - 3 putting from 20 feet on the last hole today. But I'm just going by published reports, and maybe I'll get to see the actual shots tonight on the Golf Channel.
Here's something that I think shows Monty in a good light (from www.pgatour.com):
Quote:
There was a funny moment at the 18th when Montgomerie asked the gallery to be quiet: "No, you be quiet," came a response -- from a 2-year-old boy.
"It's the first time anyone has answered me back," Montgomerie said with a laugh.
Don't forget Monty is playing at home in Scotland (I think he actually live in London) and although I am sure he is doing ok, after the divorce he might just need to win more $$ often that bazillionaire Phil.
Plus Monty played pretty good for 71 holes anyway, Phile was scrambling for 18 holes on Sunday before his meltdow - has to take a little out of you.
Phil apparently pulled out of the Par 3 Shootout, which I think starts next week. He says that he doesn't want to attempt to fake everyone out since the event is supposed to be about having a good time and he says at this stage he simply can't have a good time for real so what's the use in faking? I'm glad he's pulling out to be honest. It's better than watching him put a fake smile on his face if he's really not enjoying himself.

This just confirms my suspicion of Phil in that, "It's all about Phil."

Reminds me that Rumsfeld told GW that 3 Brazillian soldiers were killed in Iraq and GW buried his face in his hands and moaned "oh no" after a while he said "just how many is a Brazzillion?".
