Tiger & the British Open

Is he going to be ready to play? I think his Dad's passing, although expected, has had a much bigger impact on him than anyone thought. I respect, admire, and support him, but I personally don't think he will have it together for the rest of the year. What do you think?

I disagree. His struggles at the US Open were 100% related to rust. Having not played competitively for 8+ weeks, with minimal practice, he had NO chance with Winged Foot set up like it was.

I don't know how the Course at the Open is going to be set up, but if it is like most of them, other than Carnoustie, they favor big hitters with good short game...ie...Tiger. I agree with the above completely and think that missing the cut will REALLY get him fired up...He will be ready and will contend, but I am thinking Phil will come back with a vengence after imploding 2 weeks ago....

I agree with this completely. Carnoustie is tough and unless Tiger gets some competitive golf in between now and then I don't expect him to contend. He'll make the cut, though. Tiger had no facets of his game working at Winged Foot and regardless of the setup, unless he knocks the rust off of his game in competition, I expect quite a few guys to finish ahead of him.

Oh sorry... they all look alike to me....just kidding guys I love The Open venues. Regardless, Tiger has to play prior a couple of times to expect to contend, IMO.

He will make the cut and have a respectable finish but never really contend for the win, that's my prediction.

I don't know if it was 100% due to rust. If you watched you could see that he DEFINITELY did not have that fire in his eyes or competitivness. But yeah, most of it was due to rust.

I think he needs several more played competitions under his belt, before he'll be truly match ready again..

I expect him to have his worst year on record, and we will see all the guys that get slept on because of Tiger finally come to the forefront. People need to get off Tigers you know what, and give some respect to the other golfers on the tour. BTW, Phil is a better golfer than Tiger right now, despite his meltdown at WF.

I sure hope Tiger misses the cut at the Open.
Wow, you're a good sport aren't ya? Is it Tiger's fault the media and fans make a big deal about him? No, so why do you hold a PERSONAL grudge against the guy?

Another thing I forgot to say/ask was this:

Who on Tour currently has done more than Tiger to deserve the attention he gets? Do you not realize the purses on Tour rose meteorically due to him being the biggest force behind a boost in ratings? He's won 10 professional majors from age 21 to 29. And yet Phil gets pretty much the same attention, despite accomplishing quite a bit less than TW. Did you watch the Barclays Classic right before the U.S. Open? Phil was completely out of contention, and like Tiger, ABC was covering all of his shots on Sunday pretty much. If you think Tiger's the only one getting attention, maybe you've got a set of blinders preventing you from seeing that Phil (in the eyes of TV executives) is nearly as popular as Tiger amongst fans, so they show him too even when he's not leading or contending. As I said before, the guy wins 10 majors in his 20's and you act like he's the most undeserving superstar out there? Sorry, but the TV ratings and the astronomically higher purses since his debut in 1996 seem to indicate that he's been one of the most important athletes recently in helping his sport grow and become more widely played/accepted.

That doesn't mean I'm on his wagon. I know he's a great guy, super personality and so forth, but enough is enough. I hope he sees the drought of his life, and the Chad Campbells, Luke Donalds, Sergios, and the like start playing like men, and stop fearing this guy. He's just human.
You don't have to be on his wagon to at least appreciate good golf. I'm not on Phil's wagon at all because I think at times he's putting on an act in front of the camera, but I still love to watch him play and he's an exciting player...as is Tiger. I like watching good golf period. End of story.

Ok so you hate tiger beause he is good enough to warrant attention ? I suppose Micheal Jordan was bad for basketball too? You know tiger has just surrpassed his Airness as the most popular sports star...And thats for a reason HE'S GOOD.

Perhaps you disdain or dislike of Tiger should be directed as those men you want to stand up and win -- they fear him because he doesnt crumble - its not tigers fault.

Wishing for you competitor to have a drought or horrible year doesnt make those golfers you like better then tiger- if you really think Phil is the best in the world lets see him beat tiger heads up when they are both on their game - then you can make your claims.

BTW- tiger would have used his 4wood on 18....
