He is more than an idiot. He was a chace to win th eU.S. Open and hes on the 18th hole and decides to use a driver even though he has only hit 2 fairways all day.i am wondering what was going though his head.

What did he hit those two fairways with? Driver. He had missed the fairway with everything it wasn't the first shot that hurt him it was the second. BTW when you get in position to win the US open you can criticize.
Just can't see Calloway being real happy with Phil's latest catch phrase!
I think it's funny that on the Calloway home page (http://www.callawaygolf.com/en.html) they show Phil hitting an iron (and NOT off the fairway), and their quote says:
"I CHOOSE:
the ultimate combination of distance and control.
the best ball in golf. to be better.
If the Calloway is the most accurate driver and ball, I'd hate to see poor Phil's game if he was using other equipment!
I suppose Phil is going to take a lot of heat for quite some time, isn't he? Oh well...what can you do? You just have politely live it down and, hopefully, let your play on the course do your talking.
As a Phil Phan I can only hope that Phil has learned a very hard lesson and, if he is ever in that position again, he makes a much different series of decisions. We'll just have to wait and see.
I've been with Phil right from the start and it continues to be quite a ride.
i think its funny that you post a link to CALLAWAY golf, yet manage to spell it out three times as CALLOWAY! does callaway say anywhere that it promises their ball will find the center of the fairway on every shot hit, whether the ball hits the sweet spot of the club or the hosel? everything in this world has its limits, including some of the best golf equipment to date. im sorry that the HX Tour 56 cant make its way through trees like every other ball in the field, i mean its obvious tigers ball was able to do just that, he was only like 12 shots over par right? maybe Phil would have been better off to land in thicker rough, or, like ogilvy, land in a divot, then he would not have to had made a choice as to what shot to play. phil has played hundreds of tougher shots than the one he faced two sundays ago, but he failed to execute. the safe play was to punch out, but had his shot gone over the tree, we would not even be questioning this right now. watching him hit that shot makes me an even bigger fan, because it shows just how similar phil really is to the rest of us average golfers, who we all know would go over the tree instead of going around it in a heartbeat. I guess what im gettting at is that either we can question phils one bad choice on 18, or we can accept the fact that he was an idiot, and move on knowing that as he has proved time and time again, that he will be back.

he aint meant to be similar to us average golfers lol, if he was we would all get payed to play the game. a beginner to the game would try to go phil's route, but an average or experienced golfer willing to improve his handicap, would of chipped it out. so why can't a professional do what's right instead of going for the SHOT, that he would of pulled off 2 times out of 10 maybe, and 0 times out of 10 under that pressure. at the end of the day its nothing about being similar to us golfer's , its about being similar to a golfer who didnt use his head.

Phil is having to put up with what Greg Norman endured for fifteen years.

Sorry I mispelled "Callaway" - just wasn't paying attention. I was too concerned with remembering to capitalize the beginning of my sentences and proper names, as well as using apostrophes when writing contractions.
I guess next time I point out the irony of someone claiming their equipment is the most accurate, yet their main spokeman can't hit a fairway with it, I'll pay more attention to the details.
The end of the Callaway HX Tour commercial with Annika and Phil has Phil saying to the effect of "I like taking risks." Well no **** Sherlock! I'm surprised they're still showing it.
