I switched on a bit of the golf. Morgan Pressel had put her tee shot in the rough on hole 9. She just pitched out a bit up the fairway.
Her 3rd shot was very difficult, as regards saving par, but she hit an excellent shot and gave herself a very makable putt.
The putt was straightforward enough of a 6 footer, but she hit it hard by the hole about 3 feet, just giving it too much speed to break the way she read it.
She was obviously annoyed, but she marked her ball lined it up, and hit her next putt which was very straightforward, but she completely missed the sweet spot and toed it and lipped out.
Just as well she isn't Michelle Wie, or plenty of people would be commenting on it. Anyway, these things happen, and she's still well in there despite the double bogey. She's still at level par. I just wanted to point out that Wiesy isn't the only one who does this type of thing. 3 putts have become very common for Pressel in recent tournaments.

Three putting is quite common even among seasoned pga tour professionals let alone a 17 year old girl.

I think the main reason people point out Michelle's putting difficulties is because that is obviously the weakest facet of her game. If she were a strong putter there would be very few people who could keep up with her on the LPGA Tour, IMO. In fact, I'd go as far as to say she might even be a solid competitor on the Nationwide Tour right now if she were a better putter. Just a thought...

I agree. It is just that alot of people critisise Wie for it, and say that if she had more amateur success it wouldn't happen to her. Morgan had a very good amateur career but it hasn't stoped her from having a horrendous putter in recent tournament. She had been putting very well up to that point though, and although it's not going well for her, +3 after 14, having been -2 after 8, she will be a force on the lpga tour.

Agreed. I think every time I watch her I like her more.
If there was as much hype here for Pressel as there is for Wie, there would be plenty of comments about Pressel's putting as well. Those that continually put Wie in the spotlight have to expect that spotlight to show her blemishes as well as her beauty.
I am a Pressel fan, and she needs to change something. She hasn't putt well all year, in fact her putting would have to improve just to stink.
I agree with the above statement about MW. Just consider it the "equal and opposite force" rule being applied to opinions. The more people push a certain individual in my face trying to convince me how good they are, the more I will resist and pick them apart. I feel the same way about Kobe Bryant, Payton Manning (and he's on my team), anyone. Let me decide if I think they are great or not...

Which is ironic as she's probably better than most LPGA in the putting stakes. Its simply that Michelle is so good at everything else that the putting stands out as a weakness when in reality its no worse than many of the others.
Pressel is certainly going to be up the with Michelle Wie over the coming years. Meaning a lot of entertaing golf for us avid golf watchers.

Michelle has alot of hype, but consider Morgan Pressel as well.
After the 2005 US Womens Open, she came out and attacked Michelle for her last round, and started saying how her own amateur career meant that she could finish off tournaments and she knew how to win.
When Morgan Pressel put this out there, people could have expected her to back up her statements with her clubs. As of yet, she hasn't. She will probably learn how to win on the lpga tour, but as she has shown, her amateur career hasn't helped at all in that regard.

I agree with her saying that being not a great thing because it put undo pressure on her.
The issue I take is that everyone is telling us much better Michelle is than everyone else, and I think sometimes she believes her own press with her "B-Game" comment. If she were as truly great as all the press states, she would cruise in each and every event to a title. Her "B-game" would be enough, if she were the golfing god that everyone says she is.

I think the B game comment was a simple thing. She was 2 shots back, and she felt she had played poorly. There wasn't really anything wrong with what she said in my opinion. It was just her saying, she was surprised to get 5th place while playing alot of poor shots.

I don't think people think she is that good. She is exceptional for a 16 year old. As a pro golfer, she is a very good, world class female golfer, that is the way I'd describe her.
She also has the potential to cruise to titles when she matures a bit more.

The problem with that statement is she is stating it like everyone else played the rounds of their lives, and she kept up with her "B-Game". I am not sure if anyone has actually had their "A-Game" for an entire round, let alone tournament.
Tiger made a similar comment some years ago, and even when it may be the case, he will not use the same phrasing these days, because it comes across as arrogant. If she said that she was surprized that she finished fifth and didn't feel as if she played well, and then finished with "It's a testiment to how difficult the course was"... It would have been a more humble approach.
I think she is an incredible talent, but someone needs to work with her on what not to say. It is statements like those that puts a target on her. Her press puts her on a pedestal, her statments make her sound like she thinks she is above all this LPGA stuff.
I understand she doesn't care what people think, but she should care more than she does.

I am a big Morgan Pressel fan as well as a Michelle Wie fan, but so far this year Michelle is far more impressive than Morgan, and yes she needs to change something - and NOW.

After this week, I am about ready to mail Morgan my 8806 and say "here, let's start over". The two-ball has got to go...
I would say the same thing to Michelle Wie about her Nike putter.
How can anyone develop a great touch using a putter head that looks like a farming impliment???
In case you didn't notice.........very few LPGA players have blade style putters.
I have noticed... I also noticed that there are not alot of ladies who have a consistent touch with there putting. Maybe an old style Ping putter could be the "Answer"...
Mabe we can ship them a bunch of bulls-eye, 8806, 8802, and early pings. Putting is about feel, and I am unsure how anyone can have feel with huge mallets.
