Following Brittany Lincicome's matchplay success, perhaps we could learn a bit more about her.
Lets make this a topic solely about Brittany Lincicome.
Sometimes comparisons with other players are nice to judge a player by, but lets limit this to comparisons with lpga members only, so as to keep the topic more focused on the player in question.
I asked a a friend about her, who knows alot about the lpga, and he pretty much said Brittany was a long wild hitter with a poor shortgame. He said she has made a big amount of progress in these area recently though and should be a big factor on the lpga tour.
Also she used to play with the boys college team for 3 years or something.
As regards driving, she was 1st in driving distance on the lpga tour in 2005, averaging 270.3 yards. In 2006, she is currently in 2nd position averaging 281.7 yards. So she has no problem with driving distance, that's for sure.
She hits a high number of greens in regulation, and is 8th on that list. She isn't so good in the putting stats, but no high GIR player is.
In 33 previous lpga events, she had made just $392,258
So the $500,000 for the matchplay win is huge in her career.
Is she going to go on and really contend for majors. She very well could. She led after the 3rd round of the US Open, and only a 78 in the last round put her out of contention. She also was doing very well at the lpga championship until she shot 77 in the last round there.
Those experiences will do her good and should have her come back much stronger the next time she contends for a major.
Also the win at the matchplay, should lift any financial pressure to perform she felt before it, as well as maybe help her confidence.
Mark her down as one to watch at the British Weetabix Womens Open.
She is an interesting person. Her game until last year or so was home grown, with her dad as her coach.
She has always had a good iron game, and her scores are usually determined by her putting and driving. Even as a junior golfer she had this issue. One day she drove the ball well but couldn't putt and the next day she could putt but couldn't find a fairway. It looks like she is starting, with some swing changes this winter, getting everything to feel right. She just keeps playing better.
I guess the past haunts you. You have three good rounds and you keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. Maybe with this win she won't have that issue anymore.
One thing I can tell is that there isn't anyone out there who doesn't like her.
I forgot to mention, she led the 2004 US women's open after the first round, when she was an ameteur at 18, I think.
I had heard that her car got rear-ended after the first round. She was shaken up but not hurt, but her clubs were destroyed and had to play with an old set. #### This was more rumor than fact #####
I couldn't bring myself to watch the World Cup, so I was flipping back and forth between the U.S. Senior Open and the ladies' match play and I heard one of the commentators say that Brittany is a very "wristy" player. Apparently, she really snaps those wrists over right at impact.
The commentator went on to say that Brittany relies heavily on "feel" to execute her swing. He said those kinds of players tend to be streaky and inconsistent, and they tend to play poorly under pressure.

She didn't learn golf from Leadbetter, Kuhne, Harmon, or others. Her dad worked with her. She has just taken on a swing coach in the last two years, and starting to make changes to her swing.
Generally, those who learn the way she did are very feel oriented. They also can be somewhat "handsy".
