For those of you who watch ESPN's Sportscenter, they often have segments called "Fact or Fiction" where they discuss, basically, whether something will or won't happen. This is similar to that...call it the Golf Rewind Open Championship edition.
1. Fact or Fiction? Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, or Vijay Singh will win the 2006 Open Championship.
2. Fact or Fiction? The US stranglehold on the Claret Jug will come to an end this week as an American won't win the Open Championship.
3. Fact or Fiction? Someone will make an ace on one of Hoylake's 4 par 3s this week.
4. Fact or Fiction? One of the key moments on Sunday afternoon will involve one of the leaders hitting a ball out of bounds somewhere on the back nine to lose the tournament.
5. Fact or Fiction? The Open Championship scoring record of 19 under par will be broken this week.
Feel free to elaborate on your responses if you wish.
1. I believe that to be a fact. Tiger Woods showed excellent form at the Western a few weeks ago, and from the early reports, the course should be set up fairly well for him. He reported hit a lot of irons for position in practice rounds...Tiger in the fairway is a scary sight for the fellow pros. I think he wins his third Claret jug here. Phil starts slow, tantalizes us with two nice rounds in the middle, and falters a bit in the final round to finish around 10th. Vijay is steady and solid, but not enough to win. If he hits driver all around this place, OB will eat him up. He finishes around 15th.
2. Fiction...as mentioned above. I do believe Tiger will be a lone American amongst a sea of internationals in the top 10.
3. Fact. Pure guess there.
4. Also a fact....there's too much trouble in the form of OB for it to not come into play sometime down the stretch. We might see someone blow one into the driving range on 18 and lose in Phil-like fashion even.
5. Fiction...although they could come close. I fancy 14 under as the winning score.
it is one of those question's were 2 different people can choose virtually all the different answer's. be good to see who turns out right come sunday afternoon.

Fact. Mr. Woods will prevail.

Fiction. Someone contending will yank one OB, but not the leader. I say Tiger has the 54 hole lead by 3 shots and wins going away.

Fiction. They could all contend though.

Fact. Monty or Harrington will take the title.

Fiction. Players will indeed do that, but that won't be what costs them the tournament.

Fiction. The course won't be that easy. There will be birides, but there will also be plenty of bogeys, and most players will get at least one double bogey, that will stop scoring from being so good.

1) Fiction-Phil would be the last guy I'd pick...Tiger and Vijay are playing well, but I don't think they're driving it well enough to win.
2) Fact-Other than Tiger, I don't see an American who really has much of a shot (maybe Furyk?). But if the Americans struggled at the U.S. Open, what makes you think they're going to do well here, especially when the Euros and Int'l players are hot.
3) Fact-Why not.
4) Fiction--I wouldn't put my money on it.
5) Fiction--If weather conditions predicted hold up, 10-12 under will be a good winning score. Winds are supposed to blow around 10-15mph day with some rain.
