I'd never been a big fan of his, he'd always seemed sort of dry and boring to me, until I read his interview in Golf Digest. As others have noted he really seems to have his priorities in order. He's a straight shooter and I think it's only a matter of time before he wins again.
I admired him but really didn't "like" him until he did that commercial "best contact you've made all year". I still laugh when I see it and it made me root for a guy who could take a joke on himself. Keep it going, David!
His exemption on the PGA Tour runs out this year. And after that can theoretically play one more year using another one-time exemption which is that anyone in the top 50 career earners can get one more year. Then after that, if he didn't otherwise qualify somehow, it'll be just annual appearances at the British Open. That is what I would call a "major" perk - be retired and still get to play the greatest classic links-golf courses once each year.

Keep in mind he should of won the Masters at least once (maybe twice), and finished 2nd three times if I remember correctly.
Dudes got major game. There was a point when he could out play Tiger.

Dude HAD major game is the proper term. And yes, for a short time he could outplay Tiger (around late 1998, early 1999) but if anything, Duval's incredible playing spurred Tiger to all of a sudden turn into a monster in mid to late 1999 and on into 2000 and beyond. I always thought it was weird that Duval got his first major after getting into great shape, and yet it was probably his new physique that led to his slide from the world's elite group of players. He's got his old body type back and it looks like he's finding his old swing again...hopefully he'll get back on the top 10s, top 5s, and wins wagon before long.
I've been keeping track all year. Duval was 2 under today in the British Open. He is close to being able to seriously compete with the top players again. He does still have an attitude problem or at least with the media.
David's one of my golf heroes. Lehman's still tops there, but David's game CAN GO beyond anything anyone else I've seen can do. When he shot the 59 in the final round, I was awestruck. I'm sure the stat's out there somewhere, but how many golfers are/were capable of a 59 to take the lead, and win a tournament the final day? Incredible.

Was it his new physique or the psychological impact of the young Tiger nipping at his heels that caused David's game to go away for so long.
Did you watch The Golf Channel last night as see the Round Table discussion with him, Paul Casey, Stewart Cink, and some new guy? I don't think Finchem is a Duval fan.
Back to back 70s for David. Two more and a top 15 finish would be nice to see from Mr. Duval. I really believe he will contend strongly at some event this season.
