His putter has not been good this year, but his Driver has been his downfall. He will birdie the Par 5's and should be in the top 15 by the end of the day. He is just too good a player. He is still the best player.
He just started and he's pretty good at adjusting so before I make any judgements on his outcome, i'll wait and see what happens the rest of the round.

No kidding. One bogey and we're writing off his chances?
hes only Even par now, theres still a TON of golf, hes playing super conservative but is really agressive with the putter, I think he will finish at the -3 or -4 mark hes striking it beautifully

So do I. I'm just saying he won't win this week if he doesn't make some decent length putts. Did you see all the 8-10 footers (and beyond) that Phil made in his round today? Ball striking can only take you so far. If you're 20-25 feet away on every hole and you're not making any of them, you probably aren't going to be winning a potential shootout this week (I think the winner will be -20...the par 5's alone at this point will get Tiger to -15 assuming he birdies all of them, but he'll make some more bogies too so he's gotta birdie some par 4's and/or 3's). Tiger is hitting the ball solid so far. He's only hit one loose approach shot to the right, and the rest of his iron shots have checked up quicker than he expected. But as I said, ball striking will only take you so far. He hit it great in the final round of the Masters but left about 4 or more shots on the course because of terrible putting. Drive for show, putt for dough!
EDIT: Finally, he makes a nice length birdie putt at the 9th! About time. 3 par-5's on the back nine, so he should manage a 68 today as long as he keeps hitting it solid.

he just had his first bunker shot of the day and failed to get out of the deepest bunker on the course and a buried lie.
but his second shot out was a great bunker shot and he's gave himself a chance to save par.
They've had all kinds of problems with their scoring today. In fact, their main leaderboard at the 18th has a message that says something like, "Sorry for the problems with scoring today." Tiger hit his tee shot at 9 to about 12 feet, then made the putt. I watched it live on TV.
That was a nice par save after hitting a bad second shot, then getting that plugged lie and leaving his 3rd in the bunker. Very good up and down, especially considering his 4th shot was more up against the face of the bunker than the 3rd shot was.
I really don't think this fine weather will stick around the next 3 days so I'm thinkin' 20 under is a pipe dream.
I hope you're right. Tiger's getting the putter warmed up a bit. Nice birdie at the 11th. Golf course giveth and taketh. Bad break in the bunker at the 10th, but a great break off the tee at the 11th with a nice enough lie that he was able to play a good approach to the green. So, all in all, he basically made up for not making birdie at the 10th I guess.
Step away from the ledge, TTUfirebird2008. He'll be at least a couple under and in the thick of it by the end of the day. It does look as if this one will be all about the short game, though.

Yeah, me too. I say don't count Tiger out until he's really out. If he was going into Sunday 7 strokes back, I wouldn't bet against him.
