How much do PGA caddies make?

I know it varies from one to another and depends on how well whomever they are caddying for does, but what is the average?

I think they make 10+% of the earnings by the player they caddie for. I don't know what the average salary on Tour is, but I'm guessing it's bound to be somewhere well above $500,000...so the bare minimum is $50,000 on average for caddies. I'm thinking the Tour average is closer to $1 million, which would put the average caddie salary closer to $100,000.

Most tour players who have a regular caddie, pay them a salary + maybe a percentage of their winnings. Tour players who don't have a regular caddie pay the standard 10%. Caddies like Stevie Williams - Tigers' caddie - gets a salary and bonuses throughout the year and of course, expenses. I'm sure that there are variances, but in general, that's how it works.

I think for every tour caddie carrying the bag of a top 125 player, there are ten others lugging the bags of tour hopefuls. These caddies and their golfers may be eking out a week-to-week living while waiting for the big break. It has to be a tough life.

True. It's probably why you see more wives, brothers, fathers, etc. carrying the bags of the lesser-knowns and the Nationwide players.

I've read that it's graduated...the 10+% is typically only for wins, while it's 5-8% for non-victories.

Aren't most Tour Caddies scratch golfers who couldn't make it on the tour or is that just a myth ???

A myth, although there are a few caddies with quite a bit of game. Steve Williams and Bones McKay are both solid players from what I hear.

Why didn't Steve Williams get a 'thank you' from Tiger during the ceremony? Besides the families, he thanked Hank and the conditioning coach. Did anyone catch that?

Steve has been a HUGE part of Tiger's success.

Probably just an oversight. I missed it. As close as he and Stevie are, I'm sure that Stevie didn't feel the least bit slighted.

You're right, probably just an oversight. Steve is likely one of his closest friends by this point. Surely Tiger probably could have mentioned Steve, but he'll show thanks in another way! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!

I'm sure Tiger had something to say to him in private during the long bear hug he gave him immediately after the tourney was over.

I coulda sworn Steve was one of the first ones he thanked. Also, he thanked his agent as well. I think you just didn't hear it clearly or something because he listed about 5 people pretty quickly.

I noticed that as well. hopefully Stevie took it ok. Sometime you feel embrassed that someone has left you out. Simply a overcite by Tiger.
