I think he had his low round one day too early! Tomorrow he'll struggle and end up a couple of strokes out.
I completely agree. Tiger and Ernie couldn't do much worse today, so they're the ones with the best shot tomorrow I think. Furyk, Garcia, and Cabrera all played too well today to follow it up with a great round tomorrow. Besides that, Tiger played tee to green just as good today as the first 2 days. If not for his bad putting on the back nine, this thing would be a near-rout of 4 shots at this point. I expect him to keep hitting it solid and if he putts just normal tomorrow, 68 is basically an easy score for him. At that point, Sergio and the others need a 67 to catch him. I think Els has a chance at that because like I said, he couldn't have struck the ball any worse than he did today and he can only get better. Luckily for him his putter saved him in a big way so that he actually does have a chance. Otherwise he'd be 5 back right now.
Yep, Sergio put together a great round. I saw his change in putting style. Maybe that will make the difference for him. My guess, he'll have a mediocre round on Sunday.
Yes, Sergio certainly seems to have trouble with the flat stick when the pressure is on. Playing with Tiger only exacerbated that, and it was pretty much a foregone conclusion by the time he reached the turn that he was going to be playing out the string trying for a top 5.
I know the "Tiger Effect" is way overplayed but with Sergio, I think it definitly kicks in. He spends way too much time thinking about Tiger - commenting on Tiger getting better weather conditions a few times including this week, talking in his post round interview about getting more applause on some holes than Tiger did, analyzing Tiger's round when asked about his own - Tiger is in this guy's head big time!
He didn't choke, he followed form. He made a few good shots, but he peaked too early by playing "lights out" on Saturday. When was the last time Sergio put together back to back low scores ina PGA event, much less a major?
I don't think it's intimidation so much as the guy has some serious problems with his putter. It started on the back 9 yesterday and carried over to today. I almost feel sorry for him ... to have so much game tee to green and not be able to get in in the hole more often. Looking at his form, it's almost as if he has the yips.

Yep, very Johnny Miller-esque if you will. Problem for Sergio is he seems to have it at an earlier age.
