First, I wanted to see if you had made a list, as I thought you had...so without reading yours, I'll throw mine in (reverse order, and adding in the last 6 without comment):
11. 2002 Masters
10. 2005 Open Championship
9. 1999 PGA
8. 2000 PGA
7. 2002 US Open
6. 2001 Masters
5. 2006 Open Championship. Makes the list simply because I feel it might have been the best executed of all of his major wins. One driver off the tee and he wins? That's some phenomenal long iron play and great putting. He just seemed to put the field in a headlock early on and every time someone made a charge the rest of the way, he was right there to answer it. Bonus points for leading the field in driving accuracy...I doubt he's ever done that before.
4. 2005 Masters...I wavered between this one, the 2001 Masters, and 2002 US Open, but although the others featured consistent good play, Tiger's brilliance in the final three rounds here pushes it past those. To overcome the bad start and the bad luck to win...not to mention the incredible chip on 16 and the emphatic fist pump as the putt dropped in the playoff...it was pretty special. Plus, the first major with the new swing...it proved to everyone that he could do it and set him back on the collision course with history.
3. 2000 Open Championship. Dominant from start to finish in setting the Open Championship scoring record. With his 8 shot win, and the career Grand Slam at 24, he stamped his name on the books as one of the game's greats already.
2. 1997 Masters. Finding a course that was suited to his game like no other, he made Jack's prediction that he might win more Masters than Arnie and he combined look silly...except in the opposite direction. His crushing 12 shot win and 22 under on his last 63 holes are the reason we've seen all the changes at Augusta in the last 10 years. He was already a big star and everyone knew he had potential, but this one set him up for all the expectations we have for him now. This was a huge moment in golf (and sports in general) history.
1. 2000 US Open. Tiger at his absolute very best. I have the Sports Illustrated from after his victory here and look at it on occasion...it gives me chills to think how great his performance was that week. To tie the US Open scoring record on a week when no one else broke par illustrates the difficulty of the course and Tiger's mastery of it. Everyone knew the tournament was over when Tiger buried that 40 footer on #12 Friday evening...and it was only part way through the 2nd round! Easily the greatest performance in major championship history.
