Michelle parred the last 6 holes of round 2, to shoot a 66.
That equals her best lpga score.
Any birdie would have given her her best lpga round yet.
However pars were okay, because others like Webb was at -11 and got a double and a bogey. Ochoa was at -10 and got a couple of bogeys. The back nine were playing more difficult.
Michelle also nearly had the outright lead at the end of the 2nd round. She was the outright leader for a while, but Webb birdied her last to join Michelle at -9.

Ochoa is -8, with one to play.
Ochoa will probably birdie 18. That's just a longish par 4 for the bigger hitters. I wonder what happened to Michelle there. I guess I'll have to wait until tonight to find out.
Wie, Webb, and Ochoa all tied with -9 and several big named players lurking. It should be interesting to see how it all unfold. The big question mark being, can young Wie, hold the lead and win her first tourney?

The leaderboard is like a Kraft Nabisco renunion. So Se Ri, winner of the lpga championship added in for good measure.
It is amazing how the top women players are really contending in alot of those big tournaments.
T1 Michelle Wie -6 F -9 69 66 135
T1 Karrie Webb -4 F -9 67 68 135
T1 Lorena Ochoa -3 F -9 66 69 135
4 Se Ri Pak -4 F -8 68 68 136
5 Mi Hyun Kim -1 F -7 66 71 137
T6 Paula Creamer -4 F -6 70 68 138
T6 Lorie Kane -4 F -6 70 68 138
T6 Annika Sorenstam -3 F -6 69 69 138
T9 Laura Davies -1 F -5 68 71 139
T9 Shani Waugh +1 F -5 66 73 139

I wonder if Wie can get the lead. Has she ever had a 2 shot lead in a tournament. I think she hasn't had the outright lead at the end of any round in an lpga event either.
She took the lead at the Kraft with 2 holes to go, only to have Karrie eagle from 140 yards, to leapfrog her and take the lead.
What would be interesting would be if Wie could get the lead on her own. As it is there is:
Webb: 2006 major winner -9
Ochoa: 2006, 2 time winner -9
Pak: 2006 major winner -8
Kim: 2006, 2 time winner -7
Realistically, Wie could do with getting a lead and not going into a duel over the last few holes with players of that experience.
Yeah, I think you are correct that she never had an outright lead going into the "weekend".
I think it's amazing that a 16 year can compete with all those seasoned veteran players. It should be interesting to see how she'll handle the pressure, I'll be rooting for her to do well, as well as Se Ri.
Hows that for one fantastic Leader Board after two rounds. There is no doubt that Womans golf is riding a high at the moment and to me it is just as captivating as watching a standard Tour event. Any thoughts ???
Not sure how many of you watch TGC regularly, in particular the Grey Goose 19th hole, but there was a viewer that wrote in yesterday and said exactly what I have been thinking for the majority of the past 2 seasons. Everyone seems to be comparing Wie to Tiger, when in fact it seems as though her career is more closely following that of Sergio. A contender quite often, but NOT A FINISHER. They also showed clips of Wie and Sergios post round interviews recently, their statements after missing short putts and putting themselves out of the running were nearly identical. Im not at all saying that she or Sergio arent a talent, but I also dont believe she is anywhere near the same class as Tiger. Lets let her win at least ONE before giving her all the praise. There are much more deserving LPGA players than she.

Have a look at Wie's record when she is 26, or even 21 before comparing her to Sergio. You are right that she hasn't yet proved to be the kind of player Tiger is, but equally she hasn't proved to be the kind that Sergio is.

my point is merely this, she is a very talented young lady, we all know that or she wouldnt be where she is, but, im not sure she is at the pt of being deserving of a #2 ranking, OR all the accolades and press she gets. Her ONLY victory of any stature was in the 2003 womens amatuer public links, she pulled out of amatuer status too early and is yet to prove herself worthy of all the praise by winning ANY professional event. My point about her more resembling Sergio is merely to pt out the similarities in the way they seem to get to the edge and then take a step bk again.
