Olsons,
Don't worry about the heat, the Evian was far hotter, than the British Open will be. In fact the Evian was hotter than the John Deere Classic. She has just learned not to underestimate it, and is being more sensible about getting enough rest and proper hydration. Your concern is unwarranted.
A couple of people have mentioned Wie getting a 7th, and then maybe not in the top 10.
I backed her at 12-1 each way, as I have backed her each way in her last several lpga tournaments and made money on each tournament, and I'd say it will probably be more easy money.

I think Annika will win but i hope that Michelle wins.
Yeah, Michelle winning would get lot of people thinking about something other than when she will win. The poor media wouldn't know what to talk about.
What the heck, my pick this week is Wie even though the course doesn't set up all that well for her. Her best courses are long fairly open setups, or PGA courses. She would soundly beat everyone on the LPGA if they had to play the longer courses that the men do. Picking Wie this week is not that much of a long shot. In the tourney's she's played this year she has a better scoring average than anyone else that was in the same tourneys. Why bet against the player with the best scoring average? Therefore, I'll pick Wie.

Same here. MW seems ready to win one, but the Open is a tough place to win your first one. Then again, how many ladies have recently got their first LPGA win at a major?

LOL, of course Wie pretty much only plays majors. They only let her play something like 6 tourneys a year until she's old enough to join the LPGA. So, she picks the big ones to play in. Her first win probably will be a major, although the regular events would certainly be easier to win.

I believe it's 8 that she gets to play. Michelle is ready to win, but I just have a feeling that this isn't going to be her week. No top 10 this week ... just a hunch. I'm surprised at voting so far - just 1 vote each for Kim & Ochoa and no votes for Se Ri ?

She's neither the longest nor straightest player, hardly the strongest iron player (although it's probably the strong point of her game right now), and certainly doesn't have the best short game on the LPGA Tour...so why would she "soundly beat everyone?"

I made a post similar to that, with a bit of sarcasm.
How would she be so bad at all those things, and yet place a shot or two out of winning in every stroke play event in 2006 so far?
As regards longest:
- She was the longest driver at the US Women's Open, by 10 yards, and that was a purely carry course, there wasn't any run on the fairway.
- She was also the longest driver at the Evian, so she was longest at the 2 most recent tournaments, so she is either the longest or very close to it.
As regards short game, she has one of the best short games on the lpga tour. That's from in or around the greens. The wedge part of her game wasn't the best recently, but it was earlier in the season and can be again.
Michelle Wie, criticized for being unable to win on the women's tour while continuing to compete against men, may be able to silence doubters with a victory in the Women's British Open this week.
