Best player never to win a major?

This is an old one but who currently holds the title of "Best Player never to have won a major"?.

According to the world rankings, its Adam Scott, according to the PGA money list its Trevor Immelman. But there are plenty of other 'worthy' contenders... Dunno how to set up a fancy poll vote thing but any thoughts?? Sergio, Di Marco, Harrington maybe?

yeah but your going on todays money lists and world rankings, if you look back over the last few years and who has been close and who knows how to win (a lot) on a normal tour week, the good answer has to be Colin Montgomerie in my opinion.

I would figure Monty because of the chances he has had. But Sergio, DiMarco, Scott, Harrington, Donald, Howell and Bjorn have all had plenty of chances

Monty has got to be it...great record over his career but can't seem to come away with a big one...can't really say he can't close, he has won many tournaments, but just not a major...

This year's US Open is the only one that he threw away. All the other ones have been great play from others

Ill say Monty(Give Monty two more realistic years and then we are on to Scott or Garcia).....we should also throw in the best player in history to have never one a major into this thread......who would that be???? Maybe Scott Hoch,Jay Haas?????That would be an interesting question as well.

It was either Golf Digest or Golf magazine that posed this question this month and looked at all time top 5 finishes, strokes behind the winner, etc in majors and their answer was..........Jay Haas.

I'd also say Monty by a fairly wide margin. He'll be a hall of famer based on his career on the European Tour alone. The other guys have a ways to go before they reach that stature.

I'll go with Doug Sanders. 20 wins, no majors wins but had 4 2nds, 8 top 5s and 13 top 10s. Monty would be in the running for this one too, IMO.
