Do you believe this statement?

If Tiger Woods does not break Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 majors it will never be broken. I honestly believe this. Im even amazed Tiger in this day and age has as many as he does. You have people like LoveIII and Couples a couple of super talents with one major. You have an out of this world talent like Phil who will probably end up with 7. You had Gary Player who ends up with half of 18. Watson 8. The great Arnie at 7. With what Tiger has already done in his illustrious short career he still has a long way to go. I believe in this statement without a doubt.

Also count how many runner up positions Jack had (about 20) to get an idea of the man's greatness.

The one golf record that I'd consider virtually unbreakable is Byron Nelson's 11 in a row.

Monty's 7 euro order of merits in a row is also probably safe.

What's the most women's majors? I think it is 14, possibly 15, I think Annika has a fair chance of breaking that.

As regards Tiger, I think he will not break Jack's record. Just my opinion.

I say tiger has the best chance, and I think he is going to get it.

But saying Jack was great because he had a bunch of second places as well does not hold water for me anyhow. ( now I know he is one of the all time greats if not the best) But if he was in second place so many times that does not show his greatness, greatness wins. Coming up second is not looked highly upon unless your ......

Sure records are made to be broken but im my view Tiger Woods is the best player of the game of golf ever born and he has had a charmed career thus far and if he doesnt make it to Jack's record noone will. Or shall i say highly highly unlikely we ever see another Tiger.....some will say well thats what we thought about Jack too. Tiger is in a different stratosphere in talent, desire, strength, will and inner peace than anyone ever. We have gotten so used to the things he does that we dont really marvel at the records he has amassed. If he cannot do it i dont think anyone will because i feel hes about the peak anyone can get at golf and he has had much charm and luck to go with that peak skill. There is not another Woods hitting balls right now. It would be virtually impossible for anyone to match what tiger has done in such a short time or over a career. I marvel at it and like i said before i marvel at the fact that we dont marvel about him more. Yeah i know we all go ga ga over him but do we ever really sit back and go he did this and this and this. If you dont you should because i think even with all the pub he does get alot of the stuff is like ho hum when it shouldnt be..Ok ill shut up now im a Tiger homer and i no it

I think Tiger will probably catch Jack, barring injury or burn-out. As to who is greater...Who knows. It's impossible to compare them. Jack played then...Tiger plays now...different equipment, different exercise regimes...totaly different fathers influence. In some ways it's like a great old movie you used to love...You look at it now and it doesn't hold up when compared to todays standards of cinematography, special effects, etc., but is it not as good? All a matter or perspective. I think (and this is only a personal opinion) that Tiger is a better golfer than Jack was, but if they had been switched at birth with a time machine it might have been the other way around. It's the same argument people have had for years about Babe Ruth and Hammerin Hank...

Every generation of golfers seems to have the greatest champion ever. And so it will probably continue, even if it takes many years.

Only 4 men now have surpassed 10 majors if Tiger doesnt break the record it will not be broken in my opinion. You can agree or disagree and thats what makes a message board great. And yes i understand records are made to be broken. There are just a few in sports which for all likelyhood will remain untouched. Jack's will remain as such if Tiger does not do it.....and yes i agree Nelsons 11 wont be touched either.

I don't think Tiger will break Jacks' record of 18 professional majors.

Jack's record will be broken, probably by Tiger, if not then by someone else.

Someday someone else will break THAT record.

Then someday someone else.....ok, you get the idea.

I disagree its too hard.....Way too many great golfers have come and gone since day 1 and we now have 1 guy to get 18 and maybe one other guy possibly to break it. Can you get any better than Nelson,Snead, Arnie,Player,Watson,Hagen...sure you can but not THAT much better. Im never going to buy someone doing this again with the way golf has become too competetive. So your going to be 18 times better than Davis Love or Fred Couples...your going to be 3 times better than Faldo....a guys going to come along and be 6 times better than Nick Price?....NO WAY it happens. Sure there is a .01% chance anything can happen but if Tiger doesnt do it it wont happen. No one person can win that many majors in this day and age. Some will think thats simple minded and thats totally cool by me it just happens to be my strong opinion wrong or right.

Well you are certainly correct but with all the greats to have already come only 1 has reached 18 in fact Bobby Jones is next at 13 if you dont count Tigers AMS. Thats a steep hill to climb and the list of men in golfs history thus far has been impressive. If a man can get past Jack or Tiger if he breaks it id be real surprised. No injuries,no burnout, luck, desire, less competition maybe. Who knows maybe it can happen i just respect how hard Tiger has worked and really gotten all the right breaks and hes still 7 back.

LOL good one. Tiger has smashed almost all of Jack's records to date and made new ones that we didnt think could happen already(Tiger Slam,Consecutive cuts, scoring record in realation to par at ALL majors,15 stroke blowout at US Open,3 straight AMS). Jack has very few left and may get one broken this weekend...youngest to 50 wins..if its not this weekend Tiger has 2 years to break that lol. Anyways Tiger will probably break Jack's record i just dont see it happening again.

The difficulty is that we are pushing the limit now. Long ago, people would have played mainly on talent. As time went on, people practiced more. Further on they start playing younger. Now kids (like Tiger did) are playing from as young as they can hold a club. You can bet that more and more pros to come will have been through that and it will become harder for someone to shine through... at least short of some major new concept in learning golf
