PGA Championship: Pre-Tournament News

Greetings ....

The PGA of America has published the (click-on here »») PGA Championship field

David Duval, not otherwise eligible, has been granted a special invitation.

The winner of the International, if not otherwise eligible, will join the field.

When was the last time Duval even won a major? Wasn't it the British at Lytham St.Annes?

Yes, in 2001, for his only major win. I guess his 5 year exemption for the other majors just ended.

I think that the special invitation by the PGA is deserved. He is a big name, and has shown major improvement this season, with some good results in majors.

I hope he can turn it around soon, he is hard to watch sometimes..... and I am not being mean, just he is so awefully now compared to his former self. I enjoyed watching him play, always thought he was a solid ball striker and so this complete meltdown and failure to remerge thus far has been hard for me to watch.

He came in 16th at this year's US Open at Winged Foot. Not too shabby. I would think he is almost back.

I wish David would get it together. There was a time when it really looked like David and Tiger would be names linked together like Arnie and Jack. To bad it all fell apart for DD.

Duval's meltdown is old news and not something that should be referred to in the present tense. His game is back on track now and he's already had 3 top 25 finishes in 2006. He won't be the number 1 ranked player ever again, but he could be in the top 10 if his game continues to improve. The improvement this year is dramatic compared to last year and last year was dramatically better than the year before.

Duval is back. Earlier in the year didn't he shoot a 62 or something like that? I'd look for him to be competitive going forward.

It would be awesome to see him reach a better consistency. His driver is still awful, but he is getting better.

If he could fully regain that confidence and driver swing, he would improve the competition level and also improve the future US teams in the cups. He can flat out putt with the best of them.
