At the Buick Open a week ago, Jim Fuyrk was on the 72nd green, chipped, shrugged it off, attempted to do a Villegas spiderman read, and putted out. My question is simple, since he was already on the green when he chipped, does that count as a putt? Thanks.
I don't know the answer but if it doesn't count then if you were on the green in regulation on a par 4, so you were on in 2, then chipped over a fringe and putted out for 4, your stats would show 1 putt so there would be a shot missing some how?

Good question...I saw VJ chip while standing dead on the green to reach a tucked pin in the far corner of the green...it begs the question as well if you use a wedge for a tap in is that a putt? I am assuming all shots from the green proper are construed as putts by tour officals...can anyone confirm or deny these allegations?

I will confirm them, FWIW. Any storke taken from the green surface is a putt, those taken from elsewhere (like the fringe) are not, regardless of what club is used.
