U.S. Wildcards??

With one week to go the automatic selection for US Ryder Cup team following the International would be as follows:
Woods, Mickelson, Furyk, Campbell, Toms, DiMarco, Taylor, Henry, Johnson & Wetterich.

Who are gonna be the wildcards?
I reckon Lehman will go for Cink & Love on the basis that there are enough rookies in already....

It all depends on this weeks PGA Champ. But, I think Cink will make it as an alternate if he doesn't play himself in this week. My other alternate would be Jerry Kelly.

Love is iffy. His last 4 events ar T40, CUT, T42, CUT. His only Top10 this year is the Match Play Champs. I wouldn't pick him

John Rollins has a win last month but against a weak field. He also has several recent CUTS. He's out.

Jerry Kelly has 4 Top10's this year. He'd be a justified alternate.

Lucas Glover: 5 CUTS in last 10 events. 1 Top5.

Fred Couples: T3 at The Masters 4th at Nissan back in February. Otherwise, nothing good. Last week's W/D from The International was probably lower back related.

I think Lehman has to go for experience. The U.S. has a major problem going to ireland with about 4 players who are inexperienced. I think the first pick will be Stewart Cink. The second one will be b/w Love and Couples. They need a Ryder Cup veteran in there as a pick with all the rookies on the team.

Sometimes having four rookies in the team can work for you rather than against you, because they are fired up in contrast with some "old spoons" who have been through it many times.

How about Cink and... Lehman. Tom's playing better golf than any potential captain's picks at this point.

He said he will play only if he wins his way into the team. I don't think he will be picking himself as a captain's pick.

Young blood is better than people who have been there, lost that. Cink would make sense ,but DL3 and Freddie are battle scarred.I think he will go for a player not scared of winning like Holmes.Just imaginreplaying foursomes with someone driving it over 350 yards!

I would agree with this. Another option could be his good buddy Cory Pavin who is playing good right now and is a Ryder Cup veteran.

What about Lumpy? He's playing some good golf, and something tells me nothing gets him too excited (save for perhaps an all-you-can-eat buffet)...

Stewart Cink seems to be a consensus and Freddie is my choice for the other.

If Lehman picked Holmes, the Euros just might grow rough in the middle of a par 5 fairway or two about 300-320 yds out..... like they did in Valderama.

I don't know what the definition of a 'veteran' is but Lefty was in the last 5 Ryder Cups, and Tiger and Furyk played in the last 4. That, to me is veteran experience.

Also, Toms was on the last 2 teams and has a decent Ryder Cup record (4-3-1 Overall).

Cink was on the last 2 teams, which also helps him to be a Captain's Choice. His Ryder Cup record could be considered 'suspect' (2-4-1 Overall). But, percentage wise, he's not significantly worse than Mr. Match Play, Tiger Woods (7-11-2 Overall).

I'm just worried about who these young guys are. Brett Wetterich hasn't finished in a top ten since his win. JJ Henry won once this year, but other than that, he's hardly been seen. Vaughn Taylor had a better year last year....he hasn't played that good lately. Outside of Zach Johnson, the other rookies have me worried. Not to mention it doesn't do well for interest. The intensity will still be the same, though.

All in all, the US Ryder Cup team maybe the weakest it has ever been. Hopefully DiMarco plays like he did at the British rather than he did the other tourneys this year, like last week. And hopefully David Toms and Chad Campbell actually start to swing it with some consistency soon.

Wetterich tied for 2nd at Memorial. Z. Johnson's collpase at the International should have us worried. Taylor tied for 4th at the Buick recently and is doing as good as last year. He usually plays his best golf right after the PGA.

No One's Mentioned Verplank

He finished 4th in the Buick and was 2-1 in the 2002 Ryder Cup with one of the few singles wins.
