And this shot from after the match didn't look as friendly as most pro players appear to be at the end of a round. No smiles or pats on the back here.
I perceive more as "I just grinded out 18 holes of a major in 85 degree, 80% humidity weather. I'm glad this **** is over so I can go take a cold shower and relax a bit."

Simply put....they don't like each other. It's a clash of personalities and I think what Phil said a few years ago only started the fire. Jon Gruden and Rich McKay never got along here in Tampa Bay....Kobe Bryant and Shaq couldn't get along in L.A. And Tiger and Phil won't get along in golf. It'll never happen. They respect each other as players, but just don't like each other on a personal level.
Does anybody recall how Phil aknowledged Tiger's father in his 'thank-yous' after winning the masters? I dont believe he would have said anything if he didn't genuinely want everybody to know how he was concerned - and pass along a reminder for all who would also be concerned.
Tiger seemed to appreciate the his words too. It was a nice gesture, a good moment and apparently, a good time to say it.
If someone spoke up for me in public in such a way, I would never forget it.

that was a classy thing that Phil did, and then Tiger did the same thing at Hoylake this year, when he offered condolences to Chris DiMarco at the British Open trophy presentation.
This is stupid. They shouldn't be buddies, they are both fighting for history. When I was playing hockey years ago we hated our competitors, and we fought alot with our opposing players.
Play it like Arnie: like a bar room brawl!
I think all and all they respect eachother and just don't really cross paths that much. Like that controversy over Faldo at the British, it was meaningless and irrellevant. The media just irritates me sometimes.
I dont think there is any hatred involved, just deep competiveness. It has been brought up several times since the Pelz statements that at the Presidents Cup (I think thats the right one) that they were playing Ping Pong against one another, you dont grab a paddle to play a game of Ping Pong with someone you dislike. (Tiger won 2 of 3 btw). I think it is a competitive rivalry between two gentleman with completely different personalities and the media is making much more out of the differences in personalities for good reading, trying to create something that just isnt there.

Did anyone notice the post-round interview w/Woods where Mickleson covered Tiger up with an umbrella? Both guys got a laugh out of it - maybe they're not 'friends', but they probably get along better than what some members of the media want you to believe.
If I have one complaint about Woods's attitude about other people in the golf business is that he's too sensitive about anyone who says the least bit critical thing about his swing/equipment/etc. When you're as great as he obviously is, you'd think he wouldn't care about what others think of his game.
You see why I asked this question? There seems to be alot of opinions expressed in this thread, and pretty much all of them have been presented with some level of backing arguement.
As for that "Fighting for history" comment, all I can say is that if Lefty is really "fighting for history" against Tiger, he better start backing some heat. I like Phil as a player and all, but it's got to be hard to "fight for history" against a guy who is almost always in the top ten and who seems to win outright week after week after week.
They may not be the best of friends and get along that well, but from a couple people i've talked to inside the ropes, they get along better than Tiger and Sergio. Woods hates Garcia.....anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. There have been a few encounters between the two...not so pretty.

HMMMMMMMMM the plot thickens. Waiting to see if we get any inside dirt.
Two of the best atletes on the planet going at it on the golf course. Fun to watch. As for bad blood, there is just too much sports coverage today and manufacturing ill feelings is just overreaching. Watch out for the physical confrontations though, someone may use harsh language.
I dont know if I'd classify Phil as one of the world's best athletes.
If you look at lefty in picutures about 10 year ago and in his brief appearance in "Tin Cup". The guy was much more athletic looking then.
I don't think he is either, but not for that reason. What's the old saying ? It doesn't matter how good they look in the locker room if they can't play.... and vice versa... or something like that.

If it were about how Phil plays, then I'd say he's one of the best athletes in the world for sure. If it's about athleticism, then that's a different story. Tiger is probably the only veteran (or any player for that matter I guess) on Tour who looks like he could play another sport. Perhaps Vijay, but his age would hold him back. I guess we should just say that Phil and Tiger are two of the most skilled athletes in the world since most of their athleticism involves flexibility but not nearly as much physical exertion as other sports. Golf is definitely the most mentally taxing sport in my opinion, however.
