675 points for winning this week, which would put him in 13th place. Just think, Nick Watney (106th place) was mathmatically alive going into the week.
Since Chris sat out the Sunday singles at the Ryder Cup - he was "too tired to play" - he's had a second child (#1 came two weeks before Oakland Hills). He's only playing this week because every single member of the two Ryder Cup teams gets an automatic invite regardless of how awful they are playing. He said in his presser last night "I came in with no expectations, golf really isn't a big priority in my life right now". Can't really blame him, that's what kids, turning 30 and million bucks will do to most normal people.
Which is why it amazes me that the elite guys stay hungry long after they start a family and have it made financially.
EDIT: Here's the link to the Ryder Cup bubble watch:
Does he get enough points to place in the top ten for the Ryder Cup team?
Here are the points possible 675 for 1st, 360 for 2nd, 320 for 3rd, 280 for 4th, 240 for 5th, 200 for 6th 160 for 7th, 120 for 8th, 80 for 9th and 40 for 10th. The current 10th highest point total of 746 is held by Brett Wetterich. To tell the truth, I don't have any idea how many Ryder Cup points Chris has (Official website at http://www.rydercup.com/2006/usa/ only lists down to the 25th Position) But I doubt that he'd make the team even with a win. Not sure about that though. I do know that after telling Hal Sutton he was "too tired" to play in the alternate shot match with Tiger in the 2004 Ryder cup matches, he's not likely to be a Capitan's pick.
Since Chris sat out the Sunday singles at the Ryder Cup - he was "too tired to play" -
Chris didn't sit out the Sunday singles...he sat out the Saturday fourballs I believe. Sitting out the Sunday singles woulda been forfeiting a point guaranteed and grounds for dismissal from future teams regardless of stature IMO.
It USED to be that the PGA Championship winner (and maybe the US Open champ, too) if he was an American and not otherwise eligible, would automaticly make the team. That is not the case anymore.
