I certainly recognize the great strides and big impact that non-American golfing pros have had on the PGA TOUR. They have made it a better tour than ever, with deeper competition providing more interest and entertainment. And this has been a very good thing, and it will continue being a very good thing.

But for anyone to assert that the future of American pro golf looks "bleak," well that is almost absurd. Future American pros will be inspired and pushed to even greater heights, not only by the deep and great competition they face on the PGA TOUR, but by the record-breaking performances of guys like Tiger Woods. Tiger was inspired by Jack Nicklaus and future American pros are being inspired by Tiger. I believe the future looks great!

I think there are two factors.

1. USA has always dominated the money in professional golf, with the largest marketplace ,the bang per buck on sponsorship makes USA the smartest place to put your promotion $ . Thirty years ago USA made it difficult for non USA players to play in USA. As a result, USA players looked better than they were because of the restricted competition.

2. This period of restriced competition co incided with a golden age of great American golfers from PAlmer to Watson ,with AJck and others in between.

Since 1985, the growth of non Americans on the PGA Tour ,led by Ballersteros and Norman, has improved the overall quality .Until Tiger came along, the USA golfers had not improved with it. Norman,Ballesteros, Faldo and Price had dominated the world rankings . Until Tiger took over at No 1 , an American had been No 1 in the world for less than 25% of the time since their inception.

Now, the Americans are leading to a drier spell, excluding the best two players in the world. But it will come back as it did before. On the ladies tour, Europeans then Koreans dominated over the last ten years, now Americans will dominate.

The future of Amercian golf will never look bleak, other parts of the world may rise ,but Americans will continue to produce world class golfers ,as will Australia, South Africa,Europe etc

Fiji are the people with a serious problem in maintaining their position in golf!
