Tiger's handicap index

I took a look at his last 20 tournament rounds, and took the course ratings from golfcourse.com.

Augusta (rating not public)
71
70

Winged Foot (73.2, 138)
76 (2.3 differential)
76 (2.3)

Cog Hill (75.4, 142)
72 (-2.7)
67 (-6.7)
66 (-7.5)
68 (-5.9)

Royal Liverpool (76.0, no slope given, but approx 144)
67 (-7.1)
65 (-8.6)
71 (-3.9)
67 (-7.1)

Warwick Hills (74.3, 133)
66 (-7.1)
66 (-7.1)
66 (-7.1)
66 (-7.1)

Medinah (78.1, 151)
69 (-6.8)
68 (-7.6)
65 (-11.1)
68 (-7.6)

Top 10 differentials: -7.5, -8.6, -7.1, -7.1, -7.1, -7.1, -7.1, -7.6, -11.1, -7.6
After adding them, dividing by 10, and multiplying by .96, I come up with an index of
+7.5

As if we don't have enough to marvel about, +7.5... WOW!

Plus 7.5 , would be fun playing against the Tiger in a handicap match play event. You would need to think hard and long before the first tee on where you pick up all the shots !!!

That doesn't include the beefed up rough that would add to the rating and slope.

Not to mention the pins cut tight to edges and the added pressure.

It's hard to believe that the slope at Winged Foot is only 138. I believe the estimated slope at Augusta National is in the 150's. If the slope at Medinah is 151 ANGC must be a lot higher.

Further to that - in 1990 Golf Digest unofficially estimated the slope at ANGC during Masters week - they rated it at 76.2 with a slope of 148 - at the time the highest slope in the US.

However, the course is a lot tougher now than then.

I remember tour guys saying that a scratch golfer would probably shoot +11 on a PGA Tour course. That's from the rough, greens and pin spots.

Just amazing. Tour Pros play on a totally different level than most of us do. I'm always in awe on the shots that they are able to pull off.
