The NY Daily News sportswriter quoted Sergio as follows regarding Tiger's win:
"I mean, he definitely played extremely well," Garcia said. "Everything went his way, too. The bad shots he hit all week long, he got away with. You know, that's about it. When everything goes your way and you play well, you putt well, do everything well, its going to be difficult to beat him."
"It will happen eventually," he said. "I mean, he's not going to be 68 years old and in the final round of a major and tied for the lead and he wins. It's going to happen eventually. We'll see when."
I wonder why "everything went Tiger's way?"
Also, why does he wear the color yellow on the final days of a major? At Hoyloke he wore all yellow for the final round, and yesterday had on his yellow pants. How about picking another color Sergio?
You can change the date and Garcia makes the same comments virtually every major. For some reason he is convinced that Tiger always gets the best tee times, always gets the lucky bounce, etc. This has been going on for years, but for some reason the press usually gives him a pass.
As long as Sergio keeps looking for excuses as to why he hasn't won a major, I expect him to continue taking 32-34 putts on Sundays at a major when he is in contention.
I look at Sergio as this huge marketing treasure - and the media, PGA, and television is searching for it desperately to fill their pockets. He's young, talented, Spanish, excuberant, colorful, handsome (only as a true-blooded confident male can say). But he can't win, and they're all like a pack of hungry lions waiting to pounce if and when he does.
So, from that standpoint and his non-stop comments, he can wallow in the depths of the good, not the great as far as I'm concerned.
The media always asks Sergio more questions about Tiger than questions about Sergio. Why is it the media never asks Tiger questions about Sergio? Oh yeah......Tiger has 12 major victories and Sergio has 0.
I like Sergio but he must learn how to putt in majors like he putts in the Ryder Cup matches if he ever expects to win. I predict Sergio's putting will dramatically improve next month.
Actually, the media did ask Tiger a question about Sergio and how he hasn't quite managed to win a major yet. Tiger was pretty respectful and said that Sergio keeps putting himself in contention and if he keeps doing that, he'll eventually start winning them. Then he mentioned how long it took Phil to finally break through, but once he did he won 3 in a very short period of time.
Sergio needs to learn to stop being such a brat about things. Tiger and Luke Donald both lipped out a lot of putts in their first 3 rounds (and Luke continued doing so in the final round), which is what I call leaving shots on the course. So in that regard, Tiger didn't have "everything" going his way. Tiger even mentioned in his press conference Sunday that he figured something out on Sunday morning with his putting (he had it slightly "hooded" instead of square). Those bombs were definitely lucky, but he also lipped out quite a few short ones this week for birdies and even one for eagle. Like I said, Sergio needs to just quit whining.
Sergio couldn't be more spot on. Tiger even said once you can't win all the majors he has won without having some luck. The guy sank bombs on the final day, no one else could sink a thing, if thats not everything going your way than what is? This has been happening for years, I can't wait fo someone else to get the luck and trample Tiger.

And if Vijay had Tiger's luck, perhaps he might have just made the cut eh? Or maybe not, considering in the first two rounds Tiger didn't make very many putts outside of 5 feet.
Sergio has played good enough to win at least one or two majors. Obviously he has the skill, just not the luck. Like he said, you need things to go your way, as we see happen frequently to Tiger Woods in his final rounds.

Apparently Sergio HASN'T played well enough to win a major. I'm not anti Sergio, but whining isn't a substitute. At the level these guys play, they make their own breaks, don't they?
I think Sergio is probably the leader of the group that kinda gets irked at hearing so much about Tiger during his own press conferences. Here the guy is, 25 years old and with really a solid start to his career...yet he's got to measure up against someone who may go down as the greatest of alltime. Take away Tiger and Sergio probably has a couple majors and a dozen wins in his mid-20s and we might be talking about one of the next great players. As of now, he's simply an ant in Tiger's footprint.
Poor Sergio. Hit another 7-iron shot into some lady's pool and have another Michelob. Then get yourself back to the range and putting green and maybe you can get as lucky as Tiger.
