You Heard it Here First.

Tiger Woods wins the PGA in a way that that will only be remembered as major win number twelve. He has 12 now (really 15 with the US Amateurs) and Jack has 18 (20). There is a lot of talk about how Tiger is doing in relation to Jack, and how many majors he will end up with.

Tiger's style is to win by going deep and by running away with it. He will do the same thing with the all time record. If he does not get hurt, he will win more than 30. We are watching one of the great ones.

I think 25 is barely in reach, but I seriously doubt he'll get to 30.

25?.....30?.....majors? - You're right, I did hear it here first - and the only place I've heard of it. He may break Jacks record, but not by much. Please, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

i agree, i think 21 or 22 could be a reachable target (and would probably never be broken). no one can tell what is in the future, and although i think he will beat Jack's Major total, i certainly ain't gonna give him it yet.

When Nike signed him for 40 million dollars before he did anything as a professional, a lot of people thought that they were throwing money away. That decision has turned out to be the bargain of all time. Johnny Miller says that Tiger is an old 30, meaning that he has been playing golf at the highest level for a long time already. I don't like to go against Johnny, but Tiger got hurt and revamped his swing to come back stronger than ever. If he wins 1 major a year until he is 40, that gives him 22. 1 major a year until he is 50 gives him 32. More than 1 major each year brings that age down. At this point he has won 30% of the majors he's entered. If he can continue that incredible pace until he's 40, that puts him at 24 with another 10 years. Fred Funk is competitive at 50. How much better will Tiger be? This is fun to watch.

I think that this is a good guess, if he holds off on starting a family and remains focused on golf. Hopefully there are a few 16 year olds waiting in the wings who could put a damper on these numbers. I say hopefully, not because I don't want to see him do it, but because these Sunday afternoon victory walks get old... at least for me. I only watched about 2 hours of it this past Sunday. Foregone conclusions in athletic events are not my cup of tea.

I think there will be a point where Tiger will start losing his desire like he did in his final year as a amateur (except going for 3rd straight U.S. Amateur). I believe also when he has kids, that will be a distraction and make it more difficult.

His best golf will be in this decade. I see him slowly phasing out the first half of next decade. By the middle of the decade, when he reaches 40, I see him as a challenger to number one, but that's it. By 2020, he may even retire.

Great, He is, but IMHO, he will leave the sport sooner than most people realize.
Tiger will be involved in many other things, that he considers more important than Pro golf.

History will place golf, as a subtitle to what he accomplishes in his days of service to all.

Earl did not spoil him, or push him. Earl understood him.

Thanks Bro Earl!

I agree. Tiger might leave the sport by the time he's 40 especially if he passes Nicklaus's and Snead's record by age 35. I see him leaving at about 45. No way, I see him playing at 50 if he's raising children, and the oldest one is a teenager (very likely at that point).

Agree .... there are far too many variables . Who's to know what may effect Tiger's winning numbers in the future. In this day and age it is very likely that we will have new super stars over the next five years. Personally I think 20 will be a good number. Injury or a loss of form are other considerations eventhough they seem remote at the moment . (eg Duval & Baker-Finch)
