WGC Bridgestone Invitational.
August 21-August 27 2006.
Firestone Country Club. Akron, Ohio, USA.
This event takes place at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, and comes the weekend after golf's final major of the year, the PGA Championship. Since the series debut in 1999, World Golf Championships have been held in seven countries. This event should have a rare strong field coming the weekend after a major. Last year, Tiger Woods won his fourth title at Firestone by sinking a 17-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole to beat Chris DiMarco by one shot. Woods finished at 6-under 274 and earned $1.3 million. Players from the most recently named Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup Teams, the top 50 players from the Official World Golf Ranking and winners of selected worldwide events will be invited to this event, but golf bettors can be assured of one thing: Tiger Woods will be the sportsbook favorite. With a strong international field, Sergio Garcia will be a solid golf bet among the international players. Vijay Singh also will get good odds.
Bridgestone Invitational breakdown (updated thru August 10)
• The current event has a field of about seventy-five players, which is roughly half that for a standard professional golf event.
• Some notable players currently on the bubble for qualification include Paul Broadhurst of England, and Tom Lehman and Sean O’Hair of the United States.
• South Africa has five players qualified for this year's event.
• Johan Edfors, who has won three times on the European Tour, will be joined in the field by fellow Swedes, including Memorial Tournament champion Carl Pettersson, Commercialbank Qatar Master winner Henrik Stenson and Robert Karlsson.
• This year marks the eighth playing of the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational. The Bridgestone Invitational is one of four World Golf Championships, which are sanctioned and organized by the International Federation of PGA Tours. The other World Golf Championships include the Accenture Match Play Championship, American Express Championship and the Barbados World Cup.
International Federation PGA tours:
• the Asian Tour
• European Tour
• Japan Golf Tour,
• PGA TOUR
• PGA Tour of Australasia and Southern Africa Tour.

I believe Tiger won here last year. It will be interesting to see how he backs up his PGA Championship victory.
Just because Tiger won his last three events doesen't mean its a sure bet for him. I would say hes coming in with some overconfidence, thats always a recipe for disaster. Look for Singh to rebound.

What a shock from you. Another off-base negative comment about Tiger Woods. Given that Tiger never plays a tournament unless he's ready to win (other than perhaps this year's U.S. Open), I'd say you've made yet another dubious claim about TW.

Wildbore is apparently a "johnny-one-note" Tiger-hater with a very shaky grasp of reality. He's been treading a very thin line with respect to our guidelines so far. It would probably be best if we just ignore him.

Nah, it's more fun to lay the smack down on him (as the Rock used to say back in the day LOL) and/or laugh hysterically at some of his posts. The first time he posted a haterade comment, I actually thought it was sarcasm and gave him props for it. LOL. I guess I was wrong.

I don't see what is different about his comments and then rodney C with MW. Vijay has at least won

Rodney C at least backs up his opinions with reasonable arguments and documented stats, whether you agree with them or not. On the other hand, to repeatedly post that Tiger's success is due to luck is beyond... well I can't post an accurate characterization without violating our anti-flaming rule.
I can back up everything I say. Here are the recent events I remember where it is clearly demonstated that Tiger does nothing amazing but benefit from good luck or the bad luck of his competitors.
Dubai Desert Classic - Woods makes it into a playoff, Ernie Els completely collapses. Tiger 3 putts for par to win.
Buick Invitational - Woods makes it into a playoff, Olazabal misses a virtual tap-in, giving the tournament to Woods. Nathan Green also duffed a chip.
Doral - David Toms has to 2 putt the last green to force a playoff. For the first time the whole week he 3 putts. Tiger wins.
PGA - Woods nearest competitors all have a horrible putting day. Not to mention Tiger sinks some bombs. Tiger isn't even challenged.
And my favourite, last year at the WGC-American Express, John Daly misses a 1 foot putt in the playoff. Woods wins without even trying. Tiger: "you hate to win like this." Well you often win like that Tiger, obviously you love it.
As you can see I gave him the British and Buick Open. So obviously I don't hate Tiger, I just dislike the man.
