did anyone catch the post game session with Tiger? a Japanese reporter toward the end really hammered on Tiger and was actully quite funny. it went something like this:
reporter: Tiger, howcome you never sign autogragh for children? Phil Mickelson sign autogragh for over hour each day, but you never sign. How come?
Tiger: i do sign autograghs for kids, but the problem is that the adults run them over. a baracade caved in a couple of days ago, so it 's dangerous for the kids. but i do sign autograghs.
reporter: when you come over to Japan, to play in our tournament, you never sign autogragh but for one or two, how come?
Tiger: i do sign autograghs, more than you see, but i do sign them.
you could tell that Tiger was giving him plenty of lee way. so not to tick off the Japanese.
if that had been an American reporter, he would have chewed him up and spit him out.
I would have loved to see that exchange. I can just imagine the look on Tiger's face.
I don't know how these guys do it. If I were an elite touring pro, I would never sign my autograph...for anyone. And, if pressed, I'd just say it's a personal policy.
he had the face of more puzzlement than irritated, you know, the "i can't believe he's drilling me on this, now". i'm sure he left the stage shaking his head and chuckling to himself in disbelief. i'll bet he signs more autograghs in Japan next time.
I could've sworn it was a Chinese reporter talking. Although I could be wrong. I do remember the reporter talking about standing up because that's how they show honor. But yeah the look on Tiger's face was interesting though.
Other than getting the quotes and the country wrong....

Here's why Tiger is a saint. I don't care how bad this person's English is, lost in translation is no excuse for first askig this question, and then following up obnoxiously.
Q. When I was out there on the putting green, I found that Phil Mickelson signed autographs for kids every day all the time and you seldom did or never did. What's the reason? And does that mean you don't like kids or you love golf more than kids?
TIGER WOODS: I sign at the range, but I didn't do it around the clubhouse, no. There are too many people, and kids get run over. It actually gets pretty dangerous. We had a barricade go down this week. It gets a little dangerous at times.
Q. And a follow up, I know that you will come to China this November for HSBC Championship. Will you give more autographs to Chinese kids than last year? I think you did it once or twice.
I could've sworn it was a Chinese reporter talking. Although I could be wrong. I do remember the reporter talking about standing up because that's how they show honor. But yeah the look on Tiger's face was interesting though.
obviously, you are right, it was a Chinese reporter. my apoligies to everyone.
BPC, great job on your post, you guys amaze me how you retreive this stuff.
I saw the interview...you could tell by the look on Tiger's face that he was slightly perturbed by the reporter's question. I believe it was the final question asked in his news conference as well.
He signs them. The problem is, when one person sees Tiger signing, 1000 more show up. Thats the problem with being #1... there is just way too many rude people.
They don't ask Shaun Micheel that question. All about the demand on a player. If Tiger signed for 2 hours then there would still be guys left out and cursing him
Tiger does go out of his way to avoid the big crowds. At last years Masters most all the golfers enter the driving range on the clubhouse side. Tiger entered and departed on a different side. With that being said, I can't blame him for avoiding the crowds. A couple years ago he was walking from the range back to the clubhouse and there had to be 50-60 people swarming around him, shoving pens and paper in his face. It was unbelievable.
At the British Open at Hoylake, He did a simular thing. Everyone waited near the putting green on the left side, where all the players 'Usually' come out. But Tiger Woods went around the back of the clubhouse to get to the other side of the green
But the thing is, there weren't that many people there. Sad if you ask me.
This seems to be what happens every time Tiger starts dominating. The media can't talk about a slump so they have to make up little stories about autographs, bad blood between other players, etc.
