I fail to understand why anyone supports a team against his own country.Because we have more international team sports over here, you always have a team to support and you get used to losing !

I think the assumption used to be if a player is not on the PGA Tour he can not play. The last twenty years of Ryder cups has shown there are some very good players who do not go to USA to play .

I can understand liking golfers because of there personalities and unique traits. But, the Ryder Cup is about the USA vs Europe. I see no problem with hoping your favorite European players play well. But, to actually root for the Europeans to beat the USA is very unpatriotic.

Interestingly, as far as the European side goes, patriotism doesn't really come into it, since Europe isn't a country. This makes the observation that the Euros usually display better team-spirit than the US team all the more surprising.

The only time I don't root for the U.S. is in basketball just b/c i can't stand the Iversons and Kobes of this world.

I root for the U.S., and I also like rooting for the underdog. In this ryder Cup, the U.S. happens to be the underdog. GO USA!

Let's see... When he DOES show up for practice, he's generally late.

He has a few incidents of shadyness that includes handguns and automobiles.

He has never met a coach that could control him. Larry Brown got tired of trying and left.

His attitude is generally in the basement, because TEAM is not part of his vocabulary.

And for a multi millionare 100 times over to dress like an absolute bum.... Have only seen the guy in a suit one time, and that was when he was drafted.

He has a lot of amazing talent, but he's simply a thug. He'd make Terrel Owens look like Cal Ripken, Jr.

Being that golf is an individual game, I pull for the individual(s) I like most.

Plus as I said earlier, this is not war. Unless I have something against them, I always want the most prepared and best to win.

Dude, it's your country we're talking about. The Ryder Cup is not an individual game. Maybe this explains your posts on the "why is there so much pressure at the Ryder Cup" board. The answer is because the players are representing their country and they all want to win very badly. This is a discouraging subject. To think we have Americans that can't even find a way to pull for their own country in the Ryder Cup.

I don't like the hype machine that is Woods. If you read the big post on here, you can see that I have tons of respect for his ability.

Nah, I will enjoy it either way. They guys I really pulled for are gone for the most part and I will just enjoy the golf.

Back in the day it just seemed they had more personality. Faldo the machine. Seve the charismatic one, never knowing what he would do next. Wee Woosie. Olazabal with so much competitiveness. Monty because no one else liked him. Langer the grinder.
Without reading any replies I am with you. I love the 'underdog' in any event and over time the European team has primarily always been viewed as the underdog in this event, much the same as the Internationals in the Presidents Cup.
