It's just hard to control that thing. When you hit the ball that far, even a ball hit on the same line will be further from target line. Misses are magnified. When you hit the ball 330 yards, a ball is going to be and extra 1/3 further off line than a 250 5W.
Add the length of the club in the mix and you've got a recipe for impossibility. And then we think we should be hitting it on every par-4 and 5 :)
Most straight hitters are straight because they're not long. A 250 yard shot just in the first cut of rough is just as offline as a 300 yard shot in the trees. It's just magnified with longer shots.
I did have a few clips of Tiger from a while ago where he was hitting par 4's in one with his driver but I can't remember the last time he hit a fairway with it, he even put his 3 wood in the drink yesterday.
What you guys have to understand is that Tiger hits his 5 wood what most decent amateurs hit their driver. His driver is like a super driver due to his swingspeed. His 3 wood is even longer than most tour players driver. There is still a big difference when he is hitting his driver 320 yards into the rough and the average joe schmoe is hitting it 280 into the rough. It's all relative. With the iron and short game that he has he can spray the driver all over the place and still not have to worry too much about the next shot.

Speaking of drivers, was it me or did we NEVER see a tee shot today except on the par 3s? Oh, and a few times they showed tee shots on the 17th or if someone hit it in the water.
I am not going to complain about the telecast except for my normal displeasure with Johnny Miller. He still thinks every putt is easy. Oh yeah! And another new thing he is doing to try and one-up the other announcers. On MANY occasions it was this:
Rolfy : That is a GREAT chip right there!
Johnny : It's a lot better than great!
Or....
Roger Maltby: Wow, what a GREAT putt!
Johnny : Roger, that's a lot better than great!
He's adding very little to the telecast these days. Oh well. At least the HD was incredible!
