What was so impressive to me about Tiger was how he gutted it out while his swing was not working very well. He found a way to get the job done, like he has so many times before.
he did, however, open the door for Cink on the 3rd playoff hole (18), when he bogeyed 18, and Cink had a 6-footer for the win, that he was unable to make.
As I watched this take place, I literally thought to myself, man the haters will go wild with this one if Cink drops this putt. In the end though it came down to the two best players for the week and a great finish.
This is, and has always been the most impressive thing about the great man...that he can win tournaments with less than his best stuff. Even when he is playing poorly (by his standards) he still manages to contend.
I agree, and I also think that there were stretches this week where he didnt even really have his B game let alone his A game, all the more impressive IMO.
Only goes to show how much a will to win actually counts, doesnt hurt tho to have a C game that is comparable to some of your competitors A games.
To be honest this is a dagar in the heart of the rest of the tour...
Tiger was awful to his standards, playing at best a C game on the weekend and he still won the tournament against one of the strongest fields in golf. What does that show you??? Another fact that blows me away is how Tiger has NEVER missed a 4 footer this year.

I don't think shooting a 68 on a very tough course in moderately difficult conditions is awful even by Tiger standards. In fact only two people from the entire field shot less

71 68 on that dourse is pretty average for Tiger... and having seen him playing, I have to agree that his swing was not up to its normal godlyness.

I saw the entire round yesterday and it looked like a good round(not briliant) He hit very few bad shots. The difference between yesterday's 68 and the 64 in R2 was the putting. R4 30 putts, R2 28. R4 putts per GIR 1.76, R2 1.6
His driving accuracy was not significantly better. In R2 he hit 57% of fairways and yesterday 50%.

His iron game fell apart over the weekend IMHO. He was missing a lot of shots 30+ feet from the pin. On Saturday, he couldn't control his distance. On Sunday, he had good distance control but was typically off-line on his shots. Tiger did not have his best stuff on Sunday, but buried a couple of bombs for birdies on the back nine that helped keep him in it. If Tiger were playing even "good" by his standards, you would have seen him shoot -2 or -3 on the front nine and steal the lead. Instead, he was still behind after 9 holes and had shot Even par. I think most of his poor ballstriking this weekend was due to being tired from the continuous weeks of contending at very big tournaments. He's going to be really tired this next week in Boston, especially after making a quick trip over to Ireland with his Ryder Cup teammates.

Until Saturday he was even par on the front nine. He made most of the birdies on the back nine. I would agree with you about his ball striking on Saturday, but on Sunday I thought he was ok although not briliant
No offense, but you are flat out wrong on this. Tiger was -1 on Thursday for the front nine and -2 Friday. That makes -3. But you are right, he did do a lot of his scoring on the back nine.

I may have read wrong, but I'm pretty sure you said that UNTIL Saturday, he shot Even on the front nine. That's simply NOT true. As I pointed out, he shot -3 until Saturday. Then on Saturday, he shot +3 and Sunday he shot Even, so his total was Even for all 4 days. But up until Saturday, he was better than Even on the front. Overall though, your general point was definitely correct. He was a full 10 shots better on the back nine vs. the front nine for the 4 days.
