Interesting idea..............this may make the others play and train harder, but lets face it, would it make a difference if Tiger wins or not?
Maybe not, but if you just want to play for 2nd place and still win 4-500,000., that's not bad either.
I do believe it might make it more interesting. More players would take chances they normally would not take.
Most of the time, you only get the best out of someone when they are really pushed, and it seems this is what the tour is lacking.
I wonder if V-Jay would've left that birdie putt short last week if the money was different.
In Jack's day, the money was not that great, so there was more pressure to win and I do believe it showed that several players really stepped up to the plate.
I start to ponder how golf could be done differently... im not for a moment suggesting it be done, but I wonder how things would work if a bunch of the 'core' (maybe top 50/100 or something) players were contracted and paid (before winning anything) and the actual purses were lower or perhaps more along the lines of this post.

Anyway, it's food for thought.
It is an interesting thought, but I think that the guys that are good enough to get on Tour and actually do make it, do so b/c they are driven and play to win at all times. (wish I had that killer instinct)
Granted, when a player is struggling, there is incentive to play it safe to ensure a decent check...or perhaps keep it in play and avoid a big number and solidify a spot in top 30 or top 125, stay in top 10 for Ryder Cup points...etc. I think no matter what the payouts are, those scenarios are going to dramatically affect decision making .
That being said, I do have to believe that at some point a lot of them, at least at one time or another, think, "geez, I make seven figures just to show up with endorsement $$$ and I have X amount in the bank and I am exempt for next year"...then they coast to the finish...
As far as VJ last week....the putt being short had zero to do with money and everything to do with Tiger. I'm thinking if it was to beat anyone but Tiger, he puts a better stroke on it. The chance to beat Tiger when he is playing his best is more incentive to a guy like VJ who has millions than even a 5M dollar prize.
