World Matchplay.

Does the Matchplay championship get the same coverage in the US as over here in the UK ? It doesn't seem to get talked about as much.
Maybe I'm biased as I only live a couple of par 5's away from Wentworth and will be there on Friday. To see Tiger and 5 of the other top 10's in the world let loose on the West Course this weekend will be superb. Assuming TW gets past the first round
We had 30 degrees here yesterday - warmest September day since 1949 so we should see some great golf.

It is on "the golf channel" which is not on most basic cable and dish packages.

The emphasis on stroke play in the professional ranks definitely hurts coverage. But I love watching match play, so the golf channel will get a lot of play on my TV.

Ill be looking forward to this.. Woods and Weir in the same field... Doesn't get any better in my book... BTW I am Canadian and Im a huge golf fanatic so its big for me, but its only on the golf channel so it doesn't get the coverage as some of the other big tournaments.

The weather here is awful m,steady rain and the scoring will be bad. Everything is playing long and anyone breaking 70 will have played very well.

After the first 18 holes, we have a wonderul difference between matchplay and stroke play.

Eight players have broken 70 ,eight have not

Karlson 64
Cabrera 67
Wier,Donald,Clark 68
Casey,Furyk,Els 69

Clark is 1 down to Donald
Els is 1 down to Cabrera
Weir is 2 up over Scott
Casey is a/s to Goosen who shot 70

Furyk is 5 down to Karlson (drugs test please).Micheel and Campbell have shot 70 and are three and two up respectivly, while Furyk has shot one better and is being hammered.

This is why mano a mano is soooooo much fun.

Half of the better eight scores are losing , one is a/s.

This is a perfect example of why television networks and sponsors just love match play.
They do until the World no 1 and 2 lose in the first round. If Tiger and Furyk claw their way back and win today, everyone will be delighted (except KArlson and Micheel).

Furyk and Tiger will benefit from playing this week ,even if they lose today. They will have rid themselves of jet lag and will be practising hard or next week.

I am just now realizing that they are all 36-hole matches. My goodness, that's a lot of golf.

Should this count as a "tournament"? All I am reading is "Tigers streak of 5 wins is in danger".

Why shouldn't it?

With Els ,Goosen and Furyk out and Tiger dormie four down, the sponsors must be reaching for the gun.

Tim Clark v Mike Weir in the final is not what they dreamt of when they poney ed up £1mil first prize.
