At every Ryder Cup, the glamourous wives of the American team come in for some stick from the British press. I have never understood why ,it is not as if they are important to the match, and if they are all blond ,beautiful and cheer on their husbands, good for them.
They may look as if they have been cloned, or that Stepford does actually exist, but the criticism always looks cheap to me.
So on behalf of the British/European golfing fraternity, I apologise for any offense caused by the gutter press of Britian.

Who was working the broadcast for the match play event this weekend? Was it Peter Aliss? It was someone with a British accent.
Anyway, I thought that the fairway interview (on Saturday, I think) with Shaun Micheel's wife was trollish.... you know, fishing for some negative fodder. In this case they were harping on the fact that Mrs. Micheel was aware of the monetary reward if Shaun won his next match. I just thought that line of questioning was unseemly and not necessary.

I agree, it was condecending and puerile, she handled him very well and did herself a lot of credit. Both Mr and Mrs Micheel are very welcome back.
The interviewer was assuming she was a Stepford golf wife and she showed she had more class than the interviewer.
I must confess that I rarely watch Euro events so Mr Alliss and his cohorts were fairly unknown to me prior to catching the weekend Match Play. After reading for several years on various golf boards about the superior commentating across the pond, I must say that if they were typical of the breed, I heartily disagree. There were several comments, besides the interview with Mrs Micheel, that I thought were in poor taste. Perhaps I just don't understand their "humor"?
Never believed that, I am no fan of Alliss ,who seems full of his own opinion.
On both sides of the pond, it is the ex pro's , Torrance, Miller,Faldo etc who are worth listening to.
I agree - Alliss is (a) quite impressed with himself and (b) past it. He is one of the remaining commentators from the old-breed BBC, name-dropping all over the place. His voice is soothing but his commentating isn't brilliant.
The HSBC Mathcplay was covered by the BBC, whereas most golf is on Sky Sports with solid commentary. Much of the US Tour coverage takes the USA/ESPN/network commentary - the quality ranges from embarrassing to stellar. Who knows how it will fare when the Golf Channel takes over...
I think the commentary on the Ryder Cup will be much better as it will be Sky Sports, with Ewan McGregor etc.
So Ewan Macgregor is branching out from Star Wars then. I think you mean Ewan Murray. It will be another "fine" tournament, won by "fine" young men on a "fine" course, and when the winning putt is "fine"-ally sunk, no doubt we will have another pre-scripted alliterative summing-up line.
Perhaps- " a wonderful win for Woosie's wondrous warriors", but even if it is let's hope we don't have "the mighty nation of America humbled by Europe" again.
