this is awful....I can't believe these "journalists" get away with **** like this. I know we have our own press problems here, but I am ashamed of my profession today.

Don't be, this is a British problem. The abuse of 'the public interest' clause means that scum journo's say they are entitled to invade privacy because the public might be intereseted in Tiger's naked wife. Until it is replaced with 'in the public best interest', the press will abuse the confusion.
Stopping press invasion of privacy is not censorship.
Publishing pictures of naked women interests a small number of male readers, but is not 'in the public interst'. Uncovering Watergate and WMD lies is in the public interest and should not be censored. Tiger should be allowed to bankrupt any magazine or newspaper that publishes pictures of his wife.
For a start the newspaper involved is British, not Irish (there is a difference). Secondly, pictures (real or otherwise) of Elen Nordegen have been circulating on the internet for some time.
Are you saying that makes it okay?

All the coverage except the part about the American's wives not being able to keep their clothes on and such, right? Surely you're not defending the article or the publication that printed this trash, are you?
So if it becomes routine for the press to print fake naked photos of every athlete and/or their spouses, then it's okay? Just because it's a regular feature of major sporting events doesn't mean it SHOULD be done. It means nobody stepped up and put a stop to this trash before it became accepted by the lemmings.
I'm glad to see not everyone accepts this type of press over there (e.g. Lefty).

Its just an unsavoury and unfortunate distraction. The magazine in question is coming under intense criticism. So far they are not commenting but I think they must realise this has seriously back-fired on them.
I've heard that the libel laws over there are far more lenient than they are here. Is that true ? Printing a faked picture, for instance the one alleged to be Elin, over here would result in a law suit and likely some healthy damages against the publication... unless the purpose was satirical.
I hope Tiger pursues this and wins. The press think they are untouchable and reckon that £100,000 in legal costs is outweighed by £200,000 in extra sales.
Until now the scum that represents the British tabloid media was mercifully absent from Ireland. The publication that has now embarrassed the country and the rest of Europe is a cheap rag with minimal circulation. They obviously thought this was a smart stunt - well I think it has seriously back-fired. Their web-site seems to have crashed, probably with the volume of complaints but possibly and hopefully because they have gone out of business. They deserve it.
All golf fans in Ireland and elsewhere in Europe are eagerly awaiting the competition and nothing would please us more than to send Tiger and his team-mates home with memories of a sound thrashing on the course. However we are also determined to show them regal hospitality and that was the case until this thrash emerged.
The same "Elin" photos have been doing the rounds for some time on the internet so it is hardly a new revelation, but for them to appear in an Irish publication at this time is a disgrace and all right thinking people are as furious as Tiger.

Unfortunately, their site probably crashed because of all the people going to their site to see the pictures of Tiger's wife naked (or at least that's what they thought they were going to see). I hope it's more the reason you suggested, but if I had to put money on it, I would be betting on my explanation being more accurate.
There's an old saying "there's no such thing as bad press." Think how much publicity this has given the rag that printed these pictures. Their name is a lot more known now than they were a week ago.
