Tiger Furious in Ireland, Wives Ridiculed

Just seen the story on PTI on ESPN today, and read it in the newspaper. They said that Tiger is totally furious over nude photos of his wife in a Dublin newspaper. Sources do say that its not really her, But the Dublin paper also trashes the US Ryder Cup Wives saying they cant marry women who keep their clothes on . I know this is an intense week but that is just too much, expect the US Team to not take this lightly.

Tiger's mad? That can't be good for the Europeans. I'm sure they'd rather face an infuriated Bruce Banner then an angry Tiger Woods.

The article I saw not only smeared Elin, they took on Tabitha Furyk and several other wives as well! Disgusting and unecessary - I'm surprised at the lack of manners from the Irish papers. I'm sure that ALL of the players are offended not just Tiger.

As to the purported photos, how many times are the same old fake photos going to have to be debunked? After all, the actual model for the pics has publicly claimed them and if you even bother to look beyond the obvious, it is patently NOT Elin's face.

That's pretty weak!

Hopefully the European players are speaking out against this.

From what I understand this is just standard operating procedure for the tabloids over there. The American wives are simply the latest targets.

Sadly, it is not uncommon for British papers to outdo the National Enquirer ,few peopel take it seriously. The picturesof Mrs Woods are news to me , I have heard nothing in England about them. I remember some photos of another model who looked a lot like her being circulated earlier this year. I doubt if they are genuine.

The glamourous wives are a soft target ,with a standard description of blond PR spendaholic who caught herself a rich man to give her a comfortable life. When Tom Lehman's wife was the only brunette , the explanation was given that they met befor ehe made it on the Tour.

It should not be taken seriuously

Like Lefty I have some absolutely nothing about this in the English press. The conduct of some of the tabloids over here is deplorable at times.

I feel outraged for Elin and Tiger, and the European team who get sucked into this muck.

The Daily Star, bottom of a unpleasant mire of gutter press, has had a front page with the pictures, describing Tiger's fury at the Dubliner newspaper.

Apologies to all for this despicable press coverage

For a start the newspaper involved is British, not Irish (there is a difference). Secondly, pictures (real or otherwise) of Elen Nordegen have been circulating on the internet for some time.

As for the overall WAG (wives and girlfriends) coverage, its now something of a regular feature of major sporting events. Both teams' partners have had plenty of media "exposure" and they seem to enjoy their status as proxy celebreties. All the coverage I've seen has been friendly and fair.

Until this morning I had never heard of the Dubliner and as I Dublin resident I don't think I am unusual. I've never seen it on sale and I had never heard it mentioned.

This unsavoury incident will certainly increase awareness but I doubt it will improve its circulation.

Aimed at scumbags more like. Tiger gave an impromptu press conference (statement really) a short while ago in which he expressed the disappointment of the US team over this. Nobody disagrees with him.

The rag in question will suffer; it is cheap, exploitative and discourteous in the extreme.

after all these years of tabloids, the american team should have expected some of this to show up with such a big event like this. they can't let this bother them. i can understand them being upset about this, but they also knew that the possibilitly, considering past history, that this was going to happen. they need to turn this into a positive. how?, i don't know.
