I do not think the PGA causes the problems with the American Team. I would only say that it is expensive or cost prohibitive to become a PGA pro in America. Having said that, if one was extremely talented, they should have the abilities to overcome this cost issue.

I think we are simply not developing great golfers in this country from our youth programs and schools. Why hasn't there been a Michelle Wie type player in the junior ranks for the men? I don't have the answers, but clearly something is wrong, and needs to be corrected.

I am a bit surprised , because I see young kids shooting good scores all the time at my home course and can only imagine the best of those kids when they turn 22. However, there seems to be very few college golfers that really show great skills right now.

there are numerous 17-20 year old American males that are not in the national spotlight that we'll see on the PGA Tour someday
my cousin is around 16 now, the kid has some real talent, he can now drive it 270 and his short game is unbelievable, he tells me everytime we watch golf hes playing on the tour, i cant find it to hard to believe him because hes almost better then me

The problem with the american team is yes they have tiger, and mickelson in the top 20, but overall there are more europeans up there, i think this is thier winning formula, they have more players in the top 20, wich gives them a more solid base. IMO.

Although he`d probably not be interested in the captaincy again, I do however feel that Jack Nicklaus is the only man that would make a significant difference to the American team insofar as captains are concerned!

There would be no-one that would be `too tired` to play in the afternoon, nor would there be anyone too happy at the thought of returning to the clubhouse having not won a point..to face Jack! All this team bonding stuff is okay (if it`s not naturally there) but , sometimes a little fear goes a whole lot further imo ! Jack is the man !

What the US ought to do is take a small corner of the empire (say...Guam or American Samoa), and create a residential tax haven (which they have to an extent already when compared to the continental US) similar to Monaco and allow "special" new citizens the ablility to create a place of residence there...then we can have Els, VJ, Adam Scott and the rest of the lot...don't like our chances otherwise...

So Azinger now has four picks. That takes away his only excuse for not getting the right team. I think he will be able to make sure the USA fields its strongest team ,but he will be under considerable pressure. Unless USA golfers start making progress up the rankings by winning events, there is no reason to think a different result will happen.

If you look at the four best Americans missing from the team and ask them to play Poulter,Pettersen,Bjorn and Rose, who do you think would win?

Azinger sure looks like a man on a mission to me. Good luck to him, but I kind of wish Lehman had been given another chance (should he have wanted it) as despite the result, he did okay imo!

Not that I care but the history books will have a footnote on TW career that he never did much at the Ryder Cup but he won a truck load of majors. As far as Poulter,Pettersen,Bjorn and Rose they have to do more than show up once every two years to paint there legacy. Seve did it more than show up at the ryder cup. Where are these guys in majors when the real pressure is on. Dont get me wrong I cheered for the europeans for the most part but the amount of **** I've heard about the europeans dominating the pros these days is without merit for 103 weekends out of 104. How did Sergio, Westwood, Howell, Harrington, Monty and the rest do in the stroke events this year in events away from the european tour. I can understand the need to relish the small vitory as you pointed out I'm from canada and the only thing we got going for us is the choking weir. blah blah blah

I hear that Azinger already has one of his four picks lined up, and has declared so! In my opinion he should wait until nearer the Ryder Cup before declaring his intentions...anyhow I don`t want to repeat his name, but here is a sneak preview of him in action!
