Perhaps the most beautiful tempo EVER in golf...gorgeous swing...and an even better gentleman. I wonder how many tournaments he would have won had he not retired in his early 30's???

I loved listening to his stories. It's sad to see all of these old-timers from that generation leave us.

He was another player that probably would have had more championships if it weren't for his service in WWII.

Hopefully TGC has some good stuff on him tonight.

His wife, Peggy Nelson, told family friend Angela Enright that her husband appeared fine as she left their Roanoke home for Bible study Tuesday morning.

"I'm so proud of you," he told her, something he often said about her church involvement, Enright said. When she returned, Peggy Nelson found her husband on the back porch, which faces the woodworking shop where he spent much of his free time.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office said he died of natural causes.
Having lived a full life of accomplishment, greatly loved by family and friends, respected by everyone, he passed in the same gracious manner in which he lived his entire life. If it's your time to go, I can think of worse ways for it to happen.

R.I.P. Byron Nelson

One of the greatest gentlemen ever to play the game. I will miss not seeing him on the veranda at his tournament.

I actually got to meet him about 12 years ago, he autographed a magazine cover for me. Such a nice man, took the time to talk to everyone.

He will be missed.

I can't find the words to express my sorrow at this gentle soul's passing...may you forever rest peacefully, kind sir.

I'm a bit embarrased but have to admit i have only just seen this terrible news. A great man with a great record, he will be missed. RIP Byron.
